Grand Atlantic is a rock band that writes the sort of melodic, instantly-memorable power-pop songs that your favourite bands don't do anymore. They're appealing as much for the sheer joy of their anthemic songs as they are for the intelligent, thoughtful lyrics and immaculate production on their new album, "How We Survive" (released July 2009 on Laughing Outlaw/inertia). It's that rarest of albums - immediate yet multi-faceted, richly-detailed yet simply-written, confident without being arrogant, and consistent without being one-dimensional.

First single "She's A Dreamer" has been receiving substantial airplay after the band toured Australia for 6 weeks. In the US, they have had a track used for the USA NBC Network's summer show promo, while their songs have been widely used on Australian television. Ahead of them are festivals and their debut US & Canada shows in March 2010. In the meantime, accolades for "How We Survive" pile up from discerning critics and a rapidly-growing number of fans around the world...

"Soon the whole world will tune into these cats and their name will be bandied about as effortlessly as the bands I mentioned like Oasis and The Stone Roses. But before that happens, Grand Atlantic need to break into the world's consciousness, one set of happy ears at a time. Do yourself a favor, buy this album now. Make your ears happy, sit back in your chair with a Cheshire cat grin, and smile at your brilliance at discovering these cats "way back when." Because soon the rest of the world will catch on, and you don't want to be left behind."(The Ripple Effect).

"Bands from The Church to the Dandy Warhols have done the 60's-through-a-psychedelic-haze thing very well but, in 2009, you won't hear many doing it with the verve and focus - and the sweaty energy - of Grand Atlantic' (Courier Mail)

"This is the excellent album Oasis should have done after What’s the Story Morning Glory but didn’t. True to their name, Grand Atlantic go after big, towering hooks. They know that hit songs are simple, and they keep them that way – this is the kind of album you’ll be humming despite yourself after you’ve heard it once."(Lucid Culture)

"The Aussies with the big pop/rock sound are back with the followup to 2007's This is Grand Atlantic, and they've managed another disc that will lodge its tunes in your head and give your speakers a workout. Oasis, Sloan and Cheap Trick are the bands that come to mind when describing their sound, and there are plenty of great tracks to choose from on this sophomore effort. You could start at the beginning with "Coast is Clear" with its dense guitar sounds and insinuating melody, or with the synths and handclaps of the catchy FoW-esque "Tripwires", or with the Oasis-styled "She's a Dreamer". Then go from there to the classicist power pop of "Freeway", the languid title track, or the raucous "Holding Pattern". No duds here, and most certainly no sophomore jinx."(Absolute Powerpop)

Opening with the psychedelic guitar-overload of ‘Coast Is Clear’ (reminiscent of Swervedriver at their most accessible), the album moves through the radio-friendly stomp of ‘Tripwires’ and ‘She’s A Dreamer’ into the lush and emotive title track. In places, glimpses of the band’s love of ‘60’s-flavoured pop shine through (‘Used To Be The Sensitive Type’), in others it’s a decidedly more post-punk influenced garage sound, while the whole album displays a devotion to the highest level of songwriting skills and production. Filled with hooky, jangling riffs and memorable melodies, this record is a tour de force of exceptionally strong songs and impassioned performances.

““Grand Atlantic’s second full-length album is a fairly chock-full plate of pop rock, with big sounds, singalong hooks and catchy melodies… How We Survive is a masterfully crafted record.” (Time Off Magazine
