- Ever since I was introduced to blues music at the age of 16, I have been in love with the old authentic blues sound. After listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jimi Hendrix, a new world of music was introduced to me running through the LP collections of local bluesfans.
Lightning Hopkins, Johnny Guitar Watson, Howlin Wolf & Pat Hare, T Bone Walker, Magic Sam and Robert Nighthawk all had a sound that made a big impression on me, and made me realize that I had to get rid of my Marshall amp and get hold of some vintage stuff - and get to work.
At the age of 19 I landed my dream job. I became the guitarist for the biggest Norwegian blues act at the time, ”Good Time Charlie”. We played everywhere, and became the favourite backingband for many legendary bluesmen visiting Norway, including Lowell Fulson, Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Dawkins & Mike Sanchez. Touring was a great education for me, and I was serious about my schoolwork, I learned to always give more than your very best.
After leaving ”Good Time Charlie” to pursue a solo career in 2004, I started touring with many famous Norwegian rock & pop artists, giving them a bluesy sound on whatever they were doing. At the end of 2007 my debut solo album, "Uppers Downers Screamers & Howlers" was released, recorded by Mr. Peter Lundell in the old Stax Studio, once moved to Norway, Notodden, by bluesman Steve "Seasick Steve" Wold. The album was awarded ”Best Blues Album” at the Norwegian Grammys in 2007.
As my solocareer, under the name of "Grande", took a more rock-oriented direction I felt it was time to start an old fashioned style blues band again.
Toghether with musicians Gunnar Sæter (drums) and Audun Ramo (bass) I started touring with ”The Crank Bros.” in the spring of 2009. Within a couple of months we were in the studio recording our debut album, "Black Midnights, Stars & Streetlights". Most songs on the album were recorded live in the studio, just like they did in the old Chess studio in the 50s. Morten Martens, a master of the 50s sound, recorded and mixed the album and made it sound fresh and punchy but at the same time , classic & simple.
I am very pleased with the result and hope you like it!
Kjetil Grande, August 2009
