When GRANDE takes the stage – always by storm – it’s a rock n roll party: sweaty, sexy, dangerous. This is one edgy band; equal parts badass musicians, arena rock showmen – and woman – and melodic songsmiths. There is an inherent intelligence to their writing rarely found in such loud, hard and heavy grooves.
Grande is named after their front-woman, lead vocalist Pam “The Metal Queen” Grande, who shares the stage with Wiggy on drums, and guitarist Jeremy “Special Sos” Sosville.
Grande stands their ground next to their favorite modern metal artists, such as Clutch, The Sword and High on Fire, and are proud to cite among their obvious influences: Kiss, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and of course Black Sabbath (who Grande appeared as in a special New York Halloween performance).
Their debut full-length CD was recorded in their own Brooklyn rehearsal studio, and entirely self-produced, recorded by Wiggy.
“Prey” is a frightening, haunting yet heartfelt song about experiencing 9/11 firsthand: “Nothing will be the same / My City goes down in flames / So many, so many without names / I’ll never see my friend”.
The most radio-friendly song on the record is, appropriately enough, a love song, “Found My Way”, which features Pam’s beautiful melody and intricate harmonies, Jeremy’s soulful lead, and Wiggy's dynamic drums, which are all prevalent throughout the CD.
Stoners will appreciate the lyrical content of “Goddess”: “Now it’s time to live my life / Smokin’ up and feeling fine / She opens up my mind / Helps me to fly . . .” and especially the heavy, swampy vibe of, arguably the most unique and ambitious song on the record, “Life in Step”.
Grande is a regular attraction to New York City’s downtown rock scene, appearing at the Dirty Bomb party at The Delancey, at Rehab and Fontana’s, as well as Trash and Southpaw in Brooklyn. Grande begins a U.S. tour in support of the record this summer ’08.
