From it's beginning when young people used to bring instruments to sing and play at a house in Grand Rapids, the Grand River Folk Arts has been presenting music and dance to the area.
Eight members of the original "Grand Rapids Folksong Society" (one of who was John Logie, later to become Mayor of Grand Rapids) purchased a sound system for the new Grand Rapids Folklore Center, with the audience sitting on pillows, windowsills, stairs, or maybe a folding chair, to listen to the first concerts by performers who would stand along the wall of the living room.
Later concerts were held at the Grand Rapids Museum, then at the Baker Auditorium of Grace Bible College, and now at Wealthy Theatre Annex.
GRFAS concerts usually start up in October and continue through May each year, and span genres from blues to country to world music to folk, as we like to call it Acoustic/Roots music. Our dances consist of International, Contra and Swing, and the venues are the Fifth Street Hall, and the Wealthy Theatre Annex.
