I am a guitar player, mostly; though I play a little mandolin and some other instruments. I live in Denver, Colorado and I am trying to play music for a living. In the past couple years I've had the honor to be able to play onstage a number of times with the David Grisman Quintet, and last September I did my first official gig as the guitarist for the DGQ. Dawg's music means so much to the course of my own musical development; it's truly an honor to share the stage with him and the rest of the Quintet. I've also played onstage with Chris Thile and performed at Carnegie Hall with Edgar Meyer and Mike Marshall and a number of incredible young musicians. Those experiences have definitely been the musical highlights for me. I really like "new acoustic music"-- progressive stringband music, whatever you like to call it. I enjoy playing and composing music in this genre. I've put together my own group in Denver. It's called the Grant Gordy Quartet: Adam Galblum on fiddle, Ian Hutchison on bass, and Dominick Leslie on mandolin. I'm very excited about this band. We're mostly playing my original tunes. We recently played Denver's Mid-Winter Bluegrass Festival and received an enthusiastic response. I also play electric guitar in a western swing/country band called Interstate Cowboy; we recently finished a record, "There's a Road". You can get it at www.interstatecowboy.com. I play several instruments, mostly on record, with a band called vee device; I do straightahead jazz gigs with pianist Mark Sloniker and his combo in Fort Collins. I try to freelance around the area as much as possible too, doing gigs and recording sessions and private lessons mostly as a bluegrass and jazz player. I've somewhat recently joined the Jayme Stone Quartet; Jayme is an incredible banjo player and composer; I'm honored to be a part of his group. We're going into the studio in April to record an African music project –one of the fruits of Jayme's trip to Mali last Spring– and we'll be touring in support of the record for much of the Summer. I feel very fortunate though to play in all different settings as it affords me the opportunity to learn about many different styles of music. Also in the process of finishing a duo record with my dear friend Matt Raum, an excellent Nashville mandolinist. To learn and hear a little more visit myspace.com/mattraum. Mastering has just been completed so hopefully it'll be out soon.
grant, i hear you're extraordinarily busy these days! i hope you're also extraordinarily happy :) well, i'm thinking of you and hoping you're feeling grand. i'm about three weeks away from "retirement" with my fiddlers, which is a little bittersweet, but overall i'm actually feeling pretty blissful about life. when you get to slow down enough to breathe, give me a shout! i can't wait to hear all that's new with you. much love- corinna
Grant! I'll be back in town for a week and a half! I'd love to catch up with you and swap some tunes! I listen to "Little Grapes" all the time, and only wish I could add it as my profile song. it would never come down.
I heard about your concert in A2 and although I'll already be in Chicago I'm making arrangements to come back to see you play. Sounds like a great time. All is well here, your tunes sound great as always. I can't wait to see you play again! Have a great summer!
