August 2006 brought news that would soon cause uproar among fans along the Pennsylvania music scene. Rumors of Gravity Hill setting aside their differences and getting back together were indeed confirmed to be true.
Weeks later much more hype was posted on their Myspace page. A fan-cam video from a practice showcased some of the new material in the form of the single “King of Misery”. That was not to be all, as talk of potential demo tracks would be recorded.
The band did not disappoint.
As the month of September was to fade away, the debut of 3 all new tracks were hyped and presented. To much surprise, since the release of the tracks, the fan base of Gravity Hill has been increasing at a rapid rate and is creating quite the stir among music lovers from all over.
Currently spending their time writing material, Gravity Hill looks to finish up the recording process, making their return release after more than a year’s absence from the music scene. What is in store for this talented 5 piece musical explosion from Selinsgrove, PA? Only you the fans know and can decide!
The Beginning
Gravity Hill was started in July of '03 when Mike Hash met Dustin McCarrick.
The two began playing together just for fun. Soon Jason McCarrick began singing with them, and they became a three piece band known as "Stric-nyne".
Todd Mauer joined on bass a few months later, and they became "Gravity Hill". The band played some local shows, and had a fan base from their first time out.
In August of '04, the band hired Craig Jason Lebo on as their manager. By the beginning of September, they were opening acts for many recognizable local bands. After opening for the national touring act "Poptart Monkeys", their fan base grew immensely, and they took off- booking shows weekly- they played out for three months solid.
Due to creative differences, Todd left Gravity Hill to pursue music in other forms.
At the same time of Todd's departure, the band "Downside" was dissolving, and Brandan Longacre and Steve Witmer were brought on board the Gravity Hill project.
The band took two months off to write and record with the new members.
The final result was the 5 song EP, titled The Grey Area, cut at Saturation Acres.
It features : Even with the lineup change, the band kept its signature style of innovating drums, fluid bass lines, driving guitars and melodically led vocals. This proved effective, as the band was rated by PA ENTERTAINMENT as "One of the top 5 unsigned bands to pay attention to."
Their unique style is derivative of their many Barnum influences, however, instead of borrowing directly from those influences they combine what they know and love into a soundscape all their own.
This band is not rock, it's not metal, and it's not emo. Gravity Hill is a style all its own. It's full of power, emotion and hooks. It's heavy, driving and melodic.
Its a fresh blend, and the answer to anyone looking for something original and good in the tide of standard and mediocre.
"This band has every potential to be this states greatest gift to the music industry."- Harrisburg Entertainment
