Influences
Carter Family, The Louvin Brothers, Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, The Everly Brothers, Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerard, Allison Krauss, coffee, clay, kittens, gray skies and sad things. Organic dried fruit (especially sugar free mango). Crying, laughing, and drinking V8 off a butter knife, one lick at a time.
Gray Sky Girls are Naomi Sommers and Lisa Bastoni, two songwriters who met on the Boston folk scene in 2004. They soon discovered they had a shared affinity for V8 juice, organic dried mango, and Bob Dylan, not to mention a love for the harmonies and instrumentation of early country and bluegrass. Their music has been called "a musical massage for the soul."
Though the Gray Sky Girls are not currently touring, their CD can be found at www.cdbaby.com/grayskygirls.
Hey girls,
I really enjoyed the CD. I can't believe there was a time when I used to make fun of bluegrass, country or folk, and I have to say I just love the sound of mandolins and banjos. Keep up the great work! Hope we see you guys here in CT again! :)
Hey Lisa and Naomi, I love that "slowgrass" and has been fun to play your CD on Trail Mix on Kansas Public Radio. So glad I saw you at the May Passim Campfire!
