Influences
This folk club owes its existence and much of its unique personality to Barry Cheesman - guitarist, anorak and champion of all types of folk music - who died in March 2008 and is sadly missed
The Great Bardfield Folk Club now meets on the SECOND THURSDAY of each month. The club features talented local folk musicians with occasional appearances by folk(ie)s from further afield and by nationally recognized performers. It is located in the unique and historic High Barn - a sensitively restored Grade II listed medieval property with amazing acoustics and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere: the perfect setting for folk music! Each High Barn Folk Club evening features several outstanding musicians performing extended sets - a perfect showcase for the exciting variety of talent from the local folk scene. Bring an instrument and join in the session at the end, and you can get in for free! Check the High Barn's website http://www.high-barn.com for more details about the building and a complete listing of events.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem, & some songs, on myspace... Poem 187 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): A SOUTH SHIELDS WALKABOUT - AUTUMN 2001
Out of the museum-and-gallery (Wiser on Cookson and the local way), Down Ocean Road with, to the right of me, Its eateries and, left, neat places to stay; Before, on either side, Marine Parks - The southern-one a most beautiful place, Teeming with moorhens, swans, grebes and mallards In a small lake at a scenic-hill’s base.
Then (holding chips from the parade’s cafe And, thus, a flock of gulls squawking above) Onto the South Pier I made my way: Seeing seaweed over rocks - like a glove - And high-and-dry sands held from transgression By growth of grass and the weaving of wood, Plus, in the dim light of a sleepy sun, Fishing boats returning to Tynemouth’s hood.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

Hi GBFC, Thank you for the add :) What a beautiful looking building. I am going to check out your website pronto! Take a look at my video of The Writing on the Wall from my acoustic album, Beyond the Blues. Quote from the wall: ‘The wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly’. Thanks again, Steve

Hiya Anna I just want to say thank you sooooooo much for last night. What a fantastic place to play. (Sorry, not Spellbinder... just using this myspace communication tool for this message!) Nick and Neil and I enjoyed it all very much and it was lovely to have such a good 'listening' audience and to be able to play purely acoustically. I do hope there will be a next time. Wot a fab club. See you soon Luv Cath x
