Sounds Like .. A reveiw on great earthquake - lightning announcing a violent storm, parts 1-17 by grant jonathon gronewold(fulton girls club): i met noah (also of (now defunct?) lion's light) just a handful of days ago at forepaw's mercado art market, he was scheduled to play, but the power went out in the forepaw house because they hadn't paid the electricity bill on time, so they dragged powerchords form inside the shop front, where the bill had been paid, it started to rain down all over the back area, cancelling the plans of playing, until i got home an hour or two later i didn't realise how much that sucked. noah was sitting with tam, from the guns for saint sebastian and chay-ya clancy, an artist who really knows what shes doing. i can't remember how we all started talking, i think i was trying to convince him to mount the tables and play acoustic ( a fuse had blown and the music was out, no stereo, just artists talking.) and in the minutes that occured i engaged him and chay-ya and tam in a fucking feverish conversation regarding, ill-ness, music, art, forepaw and a whole bunch of other wonderful ideas and happenings. noah and i ended up trading cd for cd, contact details and he turned out to be one of the warmest guys, with a wild open country grin i have ever met who really sparked up all over his face with genuine interest in what you were saying. this recording breathes, it yawns, it collapses over in your lap cause it knows you well enough to do that when it wants to. makes me feel like ive fucked noah and i could make you a map of his chest. the drums get beat with what can only be an actual feeling, stumbling, vomitting, convulsing quietly in the closets and cupboards while the guitars.violins.glockenspiels roll roll roll over, making me bend back my head like i did when i was a kid on the porch when we lived with our friends, staring at the christmas lights, and i would push my temples real hard and spin around staring at the house across the streets and the redgreenblueyelloworange bulbs over my head and a great silence that i loved at that age would get me by the throat. number 5 trips over you and laughs alot about it. number 8 dances on top of somebody elses car and sings the words to "tango 'till they're sore" by waits, all fucked up and with a silly growl impersanation, face looking like a laugh in the middle of the night while you run away real fast even though no one saw you. number 10 is afraid of dying and wants you to leave it alone. number 11 has been watching oprah without sound and noticing the sadness you can put anywhere if you want too, welling up with that old alien isolation feeling, like living in the mountains and understanding that sadness is important. i could write more but it just occured to me that if you get the cd cause you read this, my thoughts might fuck the whole thing for you. if you listen to this use your imagination. i think it was made for that. i never asked noah, cause i still haven't talked to him since, but this recording feels like it was made for somebody with imagination. i have sat in the middle of my cold hospital room (i got just before a hospital admission, silly) listening to this, just watching the slow sluggish light from here to there, or counting my toes pretending i forgot the number, watching my hands move thinking about the muscles underneath them, pulling my arms forward like a tough guy and imagining a new pair of hands shooting up outta my scapulas and also great earthquaked while iw was shuffling around the ward looking at the drooling, completely fucked, bent over humanity and understanding that sadness is important, as i bent my head back and tried to get taken by the throat with a real feeling. and it always worked. great earthquake for the busted heart. great earthquake for the silly head. great earthquake for the nights outside. great earthquakequakequakequakequakequakequake. if you want me to compare it to something think the microphones instrumental forever, think pikelet, early stuff, on a four tack with no head or voice, or just fuck off and quit looking for a comparison and go here (great earthquake myspace) and get the cd from noah. oh yeah and it was mixed by Seth Rees if that means anything to you.

   About Great Earthquake
............ News for April 2009: Hello there...I have just recently been featured on Sydney's FBI Radio's Beforecast(pod cast)thingy if anyone would like to check it out?download it at: http://www.fbiradio.com/content.php/850.html....Also for another plug, I was recently interviewed on triple r as part of Owen Mckern's show delivery, which was a true unexpected honor...thanks for having me Owen......In other news I have a new album. Its called "rhythms in nature"and I guess you could say its a follow up to "patterns in nature which was recorded not to long before the other. It has 10 tracks and is mostly rather upbeat. You can buy both rhythms in nature and patterns in nature at missing link records(bourke st,city)along with my favorite city cafe "pushka"(20 presgrave place, city-its off little collins st,then off howie place)and im selling them at shows or you can email me for a copy at noahsymons@hotmail.com......take care!!! xo........................................... In other news....I have 4 other albums also....You can buy some of them at missing link(bourke st, city) and some of them at polyester(brunswick street)......................................................Great Earthquke is a project which came about in 2005 with noah who orginally played drums in a duo called "lions light" which had to stop when his other half left to live in the solomon islands. So he needed to find an outlet for his musical ideas and help him to stay sane,so he did in the form of Great Earthquake. Noah now performs with many instruments with the aid of a loop pedal and also records and resides in the mountains in melbourne. Noah is now also involved in project's "flag and forget" and "the spheres" which are both an interesting contrast to great earthquake. www.myspace.com/flagandforget.....http://www.myspace.com/thespheresofmelbourne

Hi Noah,
I felt inclined to again say how awesome you were last night; I'm pretty sure I'm now in love with the piano accordion. Like, a fleeting sort of "we danced once, and your smile led me on" kind of love.
It's actually really hot.
OH, it's David by the way, Andranicki (holy shit, I have no idea how to spell her name! Ultimate guilt!) introduced us.
