"One of my Punknews.org colleagues, Brian Shultz, did an ‘Editors’ Picks’ post about this band on Sunday (when do I get to do one of those?) and the band in question, Greater Visions, have been passing around a link to download their debut EP, Greater Themes, for free. Being the philanthropic man that I am (and knowing full well that good, legitimately and legally free music is difficult to come by), I thought I’d pass it along.
Greater Visions hail from Michigan and play that sort of intense, passionate post-hardcore that’s seemingly all the rage these days. There’s virtually no information on the band or its history to be found, be it with the band itself or with the members, but for a debut EP from a new band, Greater Themes is an infinitely more focused, polished and accomplished record than most bands with multiple releases under their belt can manage. Fans of Polar Bear Club, Comeback Kid and Make Do And Mend ought to be stoked on Greater Visions."
"I have no idea when Greater Visions formed (late last year?), who they might cite as influences (Fairweather? Polar Bear Club? Stay Gold? Fuck if I know at this point) or if they have ex-members of any other notable bands (they sound too accomplished not to). But they friend-requested me on MySpace a few days ago and are surprisingly pretty fucking good. And you know those random friend requests; they're usually pretty disastrous. If you only listen to one of the two songs on their MySpace page, let it be "My Fight Club"; their vocalist sort of sounds like the dude from Fireworks at first, but the music is arrestingly atmospheric, definitely dynamic and suddenly throws in a few shocking changes before launching into more straightforward, melody-tinged hardcore territory. I can't gauge any information on this band other than the fact that they're looking for a guitarist and may have released an EP earlier this year (I asked if they had a demo or anything available and they decided not to respond). But still, this is really, really promising stuff and I'm curious as to what their deal is."
you know, i usually dont check out bands that randomly add me, but you said crime in stereo, and energy so i figured i would and i really dig you guys. if you ever need a show in the central illinois area, gimme a message or whatever, i have a venue i can hook you up with and you'll be taken care of with open arms
I've been constantly listening to your jams in the recent weeks. Why are the good bands always a thousand miles away from me? Hurry up and make a name for yourselves in this sorry sack-of-shit-excuse of an alleged community called hardcore. Then, get over to the west coast.
wow you guys are fucking amazing!! thanks for the add you guys sound really good it kind of reminds me of sinking ships in a way keep up the good work.
