Alvin Green was born in the small town of Lamar, South Carolina, A town which only had one stop light in the middle of the city. At a very young age Alvin knew he had a tremendous love for music. Near the age of ten, Alvin was introduced to singing by his mentor, Grover Damon. Alvin says "I was so shy, Grover would have to give me candy to get me to sing in public, but that was how I got started singing publicly. During his teens, Alvin sung with a local group until he migrated to New York City, it was here that he started singing lead for the 5 Singing Stars (A group still active in the recording and performing scene, led by legendary gospel artist Tommy Ellison). After remaining with the 5 Singing Stars for a while Alvin started singing and recording secular music with his own group.
While singing and recording R&B, Alvin was backed by many great session musicians, vocalist and producers, including, Patti Austin, Cissy Houston, Gwen Guthrie, Bunny Sigler and many, many more. After some years of singing secular music, God called Alvin back into his services and Alvin started GREENFIRE records. Here he recorded with his new gospel group, the Unlimited Sounds. He also recorded a group of young eager men with alot of energy and excitement called Wonderboy & the Spiritual Voices. Alvin recorded many songs on the young group and released two CD's on the group in the early 90's helping them to establish local radio airplay and gain national recognition.
In 2001 Alvin got together with Spanky Williams (former member of the Spiritual Voices and current memmber of Darrell McFadden & the Disciples), to discuss some ideas for a new recording. These discussions led to WORDS, WISDOM AND MUSIC, a CD full of testimony and truth. Alvin say's God truly blessed our recording sessions in a really big way. I believe the words and music he gave us during these sessions will touch and heal the spirit, and I am looking forward to that ." "God has given me many other things to do like my own hairstyling business (House of Styles), Millennium 3000 recording studio, real estate, etc.), but the gift of songs, especially the songs on my latest recording are truly a blessing from God that I am eager to share with the world." Some of those songs like "Hold On," "He'll Understand It (with Spanky Williams)" and "Walk In Jerusalem" are currently getting great airplay and great response from gospel music listeners all over the country.
