Here's a list of some banging bands we have played with in the past...
The Flaws, New Amusement, How Will they Cope, Cloud Castle Lake, Duke Special, Sleep Thieves, Autumn Owls, LPX, Amusement Parks On Fire, Le Galaxie, The Funeral Suits, Lines Drawing Circles, Crimes Against, Sanzkrit, Jinx Lennon, Bright Light Fiasco, Black Soul Strangers, Dark Room Notes, Grand Pocket Orchestra, Subplots, The Tripps, Fight Like Apes, Twin Kranes and Adebisi Shank...
Green Lights are currently on a lengthy enforced indefinite "hiatus" (no one ever uses that word for anything other than band break-ups!), with their members dotted around the place exploring.
Chances of a return in some form are high. For now, enjoy the lovely photographs, moving pictures and jingles that we have on this page. Also check out this very sad but sufficiently tacky graphic below. Sniffle.
Green Lights release the Megaphone Bow-tie single on February 20th, available exclusively online on megaphonebowtie.com. The 2 track release coincides with an enforced lengthy hiatus for the band, with recessionary woes forcing a member to Japan for new employment and recreation opportunities. The band played their final set of shows on February 26th (Cork, Cyprus Avenue), 27th (Dublin, Whelans Upstairs) and 28th (Castlebar, Bar Ritz).
The Megaphone Bow-tie single was recorded in Dublin’s Redlab studios on January 20th while the world watched Barack Obama being sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America. The first track recorded that evening was the title track, Megaphone Bow-tie. The song is about a constricting dying love and is best described as Leona Lewis meets Pavement. It features the home made instrument, the screamophone.
The second track recorded was Mad as Hell. This song is an instrumental based around Howard Beale’s monologue from Network (1976 ). A speech that could hardly be more topical or worthy of attention in the Ireland of 2009, “Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job”. However the fact that this song is symbolic of the very reasons Green Lights are being put in a shoebox and kicked under the bed makes it all the more fitting for release.
Both tracks will be available as a free download from megaphonebowtie.com.
This site was put together using Bandcamp, an innovative new technology that allows independent artists to offer lossless downloads and streams to users. The band’s older releases have also been made available for download from the new site.
Green Lights are Colin (guitar, vocal, sampler), Nigel (keyboards, screamophone) and Daniel (drums). The band hail from Monaghan/Drogheda but formed in Dublin in 2006. Since then they have lived together for just over 1000 days and played almost 100 gigs across the island of Ireland. They released their debut EP Small Curious Things in March 2008, and the second Time to Tell the Parents followed in November 2008.
Time to Tell the Parents was listed as one of Hot Press’s EP releases of the year and the Drop-D website listed the band as one of the big acts for 2009. The release received substantial airplay on Phantom FM, 2FM, Cork’s Red FM and Limerick 95FM where they were championed by the likes of Dan Hegarty, Jim Carroll, Cormac Battle and Cathal Funge. The band’s music has been used in RTE’s IFTA-nominated Aisling’s Diary.
Green Lights were the featured artist on the Phantom FM ICON Listening Post with Cathal Funge on January 21st 2009. Listen to the interview above or by clicking here. Ignore the silly slideshow. Enjoy.
