"Somethings Wrong with the Boy" one of my favorite early songs by me......these were very stressful times for me....I remember playing all my little demo songs to my stoner buddies and they were horrified at what they heard...(My family went into shock too upon hearing some of these and I'll never forget !..My older brother Jeff actually confronted me and scolded me ...FOR MY SONGS !!!!! WOW !!!!anyway....the lyrics were scary but the music was wimpy...it sounded like the who Tommy meets David Bowie...I thought I had mixed in enough heavy and muddy guitar...I guess I didn't....but one guy named Flipper commented..."its pretty interesting...Hagins"

1983; At my home --the 251 house- in Torrance...down stairs , my bedroom was a maze of chords and amplifiers, speakers and wires...and tape decks upon boom boxes all strung together...even drums too !!microphones everywhere !....I would overdub my own little songs painstakenly and I INDEED had my own little "Studio"...I would record killer little demos and my friends at school were stunned and thought I went to a real studio--they were that Good !....My brother Doug would smash in the door suddenly and telling me to "Knock it the fuck off" ...when I got too loud.....A friend of mine later named Stevo would comment of him... ; "He is psychotic"...

1985; The epic jam sessions with Stevo Stepanian...a remarkable South Bay guitarist that me and Ted had the fortune of meeting...We jammed at Ted's house and these jams were unbelievable...close to if not better at times than GE itself ! In 1986, We played a gig in Lomita that was unreal ! At this tiny club...Ted wasn't there that night...it was Dave Basen ! Another awesome musician from the South Bay...who later played in alot of good bands....We were a three piece in 1986 playing punk rock mixed with Creedence Clearwater...and we smashed our gear ! We opened for the legendary South Bay band "the Twisters"....two of them commented to me that they would 'have trouble' following "The Soul Clinic" as we were called...."One of the most insane things I have ever seen...and I saw the Who live"...I will never forget the Twsiters singer telling me that night in the parking lot...with me all sweaty and hunched over...blood streaming down my face....

1987; I hooked up with this south bay trio..."Vana Black"...Their original drummer Rich was way better than me I thought...though I hit harder...I was into Kieth Moon and he was into Neil Peart...I liked Peart too though and I quickly copied his foot patterns (Pearts and Rich's) and I bought a drum book too at a local music store..I tried to pursuade the drummer to stay but he quit..I wanted to just sing...but I ended up playing drums too !!!.THE RESULT; THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT 1987....THE BAND THAT DIDN'T KNOW IT...BUT they would change Planet Earth !.......

In 1987 and 88' , the state of punk rock was near death.........BIG HAIRED 80'S HEAVY METAL DOMINATED THE SCENE....GE WAS A WEIRD LITTLE BAND..that dressed in tattered clothes and sweated....they got Drunk and stoned in Vans...but we weren't exactly "Metallers"....We all liked metal--We had to--!!! IT WAS THE 1980'S FOR CHRISSAKES !...BUT though Flipper and Ted had a Led Zep / Deep Purp / blues-come Clapton thing...I had a thing for Bowie, Genesis (With Peter Gabriel mainly), and the who...I also liked The Stooges, and all kinds of Punk rock From Black Flag to Dead Kennedys and Circle Jerks.......and Husker Du

THE SOUND OF GE REFLECTED THIS COLLISION.........the gloomy "Loners" life that I lived brought out painful 'realistic' little poems and lyrics....a myopic writing style that told the story of a lone Christian guy (An Irish Bug...basicly) trying his best in a modern world of South Bay Surfers, Sluts ,and 80's Yuppies down on the Esplanade..a world slowly going mad each day.....in essance, I think I was sorta like a u2 Bono....only on drums !..but not that MUCH OF A DICK LIKE THAT I Hope !!!!....and I lived a 'rat' lifestyle of partying and contridictions...trying to save the world and showing off how 'smart' I was as I was myself sinking into the abyss of alcoholism and just plain foolish embarrassment !.....Looking back at me...it is interesting for me to see---THAT I WAS No one to listen to ! TAKEN ALL IN ALL THOUGH..........I THINK THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE IS FABULOUS ART !!!!!!!!!!!
The Media missed out on GE ! This indeed was A STORY OF SUBURBAN AMERICA...FOR BETTER...OR worse...that had to be told...I will try my best to tell it today !

I remember People would whisper about me that I was kindof a "Right Wing" guy.......I went to church...and I tried to always do the right thing as taught to me and I instinctively just knew from the culture of my background and upbringing at 251 and all; MY PARENTS WERE BOTH SCHOOL TEACHERS...AND THEY WERE ALSO BOTH "CATHOLIC' SCHOOL TEACHERS IN their spare time....They were two very giving people...who I guess were trying to Help their world and community ...or something like that....I didn't really get that vibe off them though....it was more like they were just two people trying to 'KEEP YOU FROM GOING TO HELL STUPID!!!"...AND YOU KNOW WHAT----They were right!!!!!!!!!!!!....its also amazing to me today...me being 40 now and all.....How much energy they must have had for the Lord...after being tired teaching at public schools all day with bratty Torrance and mean PV snobby kids to deal with !!!!!!!!!!!!....Also...I notice looking back today...my parents weren't exactly "In with the rest" of our city community types...They kept to themselves pretty much and from them I learned to do the same...this had its drawbacks!...Your kids who wanna fraternize with all the California "Liberal" scene...they might have to make some ajustments...I never really could...I guess my older brothers and sisters did....sortof...ANYWAY.........THIS WOULD MANIFEST ITSELF SORTOF WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF GE.....it kinda made people think that GE was that "Weird little band...with that weird little shark guy"....the guy that really lived in "His own little world" as they would say........looking back...I WOULD SAY MY PARENTS WEREN'T EXACTLY...THE BEST PARENTS....THE IRONY OFCOURSE BEING THAT THEY WERE BOTH SCHOOL TEACHERS.....!!.....BUT IT IS NOT EXACTLY THEIR FAULT EITHER !!! My Parents had many struggles and demons...Back in those ROUGH TIMES--THE 60'S !!THE 70's...there was Vietnam AND DRUGS N STUFF and the fear that there kids might have 'to go'...and with the faith and all 'that they should go"....it was real confusing times indeed FOR ALL AMERICA in general....... !! PLUS OTHER STUFF ! I SORTA CALL IT; THE 'HAGINS CURSE' ---- SORTA LIKE the black cloud over the Irish in America !!!!!!!!! Despite our huge faith in the Lord....THINGS DO NOT OFTEN GO SMOOTHLY FOR YOU IN LIFE IF YER A HAGINS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN !.........AND CLARK HAGINS IS NOT ONLY NO EXCEPTION....I PROBOBLY GOT IT THE WORST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....It really shakes one's Faith....and believe me....I have trouble now getting up and going to church like I used to...not because of all the Liberals in the church or because of how my mind wanders and I don't really like to listen.....when you get right down to it...I don't care about them...it is just the feeling that...when is God gonna GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK IN THIS LIFE !!!!!!!! YOU JUST THROW UP YOUR HANDS AND GIVE UP.....THAT--AND WITH ALL YER BELIEFS AND CONVICTIONS !!!!!!!!!!!....NEVERTHELESS I KEEP PRAYING...I HAVN'T GIVEN UP COMPLETELY !

Now............I am a five foot six "Little guy" and on more than a thousand occasions, I have been threatened, kicked ,and punched....and then theres those people just telling me to stand tall and fight...!! WELL IT AIN'T THAT EASY....THEY SAY...""BE LIKE DOUG AND KICK ASS ! ""...Well anybody ought to know there is one Hell of a difference between a big oafy mean Sagitarius Neandrathal like THE DH....AND THE LITTLE Catholic Taurus Sharky...who either thinks or runs before he punches....as he writes you a poem or song lyric or paints you a nice picture.........or somethin' like that...in my opinion and i think it is fact....OUR SOCIETY SHOULDN'T WANT OR EXPECT IT'S SHARKS TO BE BEATING PEOPLE UP !....THAT BEING SAID...WE ALSO SHOULDN'T HAVE JOCKS AND OTHER FOOTBALL HEADS HANDLING GUITARS AND DRUMS....THAT HAS CREATED A CRAPPY ROCK CULTURE OF TODAY WITH STUFF LIKE STAINED,MUDVAINE ...AND SLIPNOT....also at the same time we shouldn't have these little snobby liberals like Green Day as role models forced upon our children by MTV and the record industry ghouls up in Hollyweird and out in Van Nuys where the porn is made and shipped down the hallway !!!!!!!!!!!!! These people are a sewer pipe !...and they have no right to open their mouths about politics Right or left !!!!!!!!!!! We should just leave sadness , pain ,and hard work to wimps like the shark.........at the end of the day and argument, I will make the better art for us all...AND BE THE MAN...IF YOU KNOW WHAT I mean !

1988; FEB , MARCH; THE FIRST ALBUM "GLOBAL WARMING' IS RECORDED AT SOUTH BAY SOUND STUDIO (BY MY RECOMMENDATION!).....and what a spectacular piece of art it is !!!!!!!!!!

1; Precarious ...this is probobly the craziest little GE SONG WRITTEN ...A PUNK ROCK LIKE ATTACK WITH FLIPPER DELIVERING MEAN GRUNGEY GUITARS THROUGH OUT !...MY DRUMS ARE TIGHT ,SNAPPY AND THEY CRAWL furiously UNDER THE BIG MEAN AX OF THE FLIP....THERE IS A ZEP FOUR LIKE BUZZ HERE...BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY "Something 'new' to/ in Rock!",,,the song goes by fast and it has a killer little solo...Ted keeps a mean bass...the lyrics deal with a guy basicly about to be sentenced to hell by God himself almight shortly after death...maybe its about me ! ...and to think at the time I wrote it about all of You ...maybe....its very dark

2; NUMBER ONE ; This song I really really love...FLIPPER PLAYS HIS TECHNICAL GUITAR SCALE PATTERNS...AND THE SUFFERING THAT IS THE FLIP IS ON DISPLAY....TRUELY, THIS SONG IF NO OTHER---LETS IT BE KNOWN...THAT NO BAND SOUNDS LIKE 'US'....."NO BAND CAN SOUND LIKE GE"....ANOTHER REMARKABLE thing about number 1 is Ted ! His bass line here is awesome....he perfected his art from months of jamming with Hebben and Flip....My singing and lyrics here are yearning and dealing with people looking out for themselves and not the little guy or somethin' like that...I think '88 was sorta my Liberal phase ! I do remember that I didn't even know at this time who Michael Dukakis was...and I didn't care about Bush Sr. ! MAYBE IT WASN'T JUST ME...MAYBE IT WAS OUR WHOLE COUNTRY AT THE TIME ! I don't think i even voted in '88....not sure,,,I was more into religion and getting drunk than politics,,,,,,,,Flippers "Dorian" guitar work here is magnificent ! First rate stuff all the way...another dark song !

3; COVER OF THE YARDBIRDS "THINK ABOUT IT"...also Done by Aerosmith I think...this version by GE IS KILLER....THE BEST OF THE THREE...THOUGH...I WISH I COULD RECUT MY DRUMS...AS i hear little timing things I don't like !...still...its pretty darn good and Flippers guitar is insane ! Ted is equally awesome here....Sometimes I look back and worry that maybe I was GE's slacker/flagger .....and I needed my singing to destract from my other faults or whatever..or maybe I'm just paranoid...I think I attack the drums better on "Number one" than i do on "Think"....I think my vocals run a little out of key here too at times...still its all good dawg ! A POWERFUL RENDITION !

4; COVER OF DEEP PURPLE'S INSTRUMENTAL; this thing is insane...Flipper really puts on a bluesy show and me and Ted hold it all together nicely...its a powerful rocker all the way ! REALLY WEIRD...NOT DARK...KINDA ALMOST 'HAPPY' FOR GE HERE !!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS !

5; THE MAGIC MAN..........MUCH HAS BEEN SAID...around the South Bay communities of Redondo and what-not about this song ....IT IS OUR 'EARLY HIT' QUOTE UNQUOTE....IT HAS A GROOVE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN ZEP AND the Red Hot Chili Peppers?????????? ...I don't think my drumming on this recorded version is all that good or tight...and later, me and Ted would work out a better way to play this live at gigs...and it sounded killer ! ALWAYS PLAYED LIVE...AND FLIPPER ALWAYS SHREADED THIS WITH ...WHAT SOME LIB JOURNALIST AT ROLLING STONE OR BAM WOULD DEFINITELY CALL; "SELF INDULGENCE"............AND I WOULDN'T HAVE IT any other way.!!!...this brought the house down at many deafening G>E. gigs.....THE LYRICS ARE KILLER.....NEEDLESS TO SAY..."MY MOTHERS A SCHOOL TEACHER......" ETC...simply classic

LITTLE MAN ; THIS IS G.E.'S tribute to the Who Live at Leads from my view I think.......though Flipper would see it another way...A sheading guitar solo with sad little "Sharky" lyrics about a little man in a bar drinking his life away as the skilled and the lucky pass him by.and.....(AND IT ALMOST CAME TRUE INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH !!!)....and get the pretty girls or somethin like that.......Some of the Soth bay's so called "Bluesy community" accept this song as "Good Ge" 'for a change'....I am not really completely wild about this song...its good but kinda boring to me though the drums do attack mercilously with Flippers ax...and Ted plays a pretty mean Bass here !

7; RACERS; THIS IS THE INTERESTING GE SONG HERE.........IT IS DEFINITELY THE GE 'X-FACTOR"........the drumming isn't tight and Flipper goes completely nuts with over soloing...and Ted Barely keeps up !...I remember we thought extensively about rerecording this song...to try to get it better...WE NEVER DID @.....The lyrics are sad...REAL SAD AND THEY WOULD PROBOBLY MAKE ROBERT SMITH OF THE CURE BLUSH.....ITS SORTA A SONG ABOUT ME....KURT COBAIN HIMSELF MIGHT EVEN BE IN SHOCK AT THIS....it is really what the culture of the South bay did to my mind.........its basicly about a self loathing loser guy ready to kill himself over this chick hes afraid to ask out or what ever...when suddenly his mother interrupts him and tells him that the girl has killed herself...OVER HIM....AWE COME ON...DON'T LAUGH AT THE IRONY,,,,,,,,,,,I think I got this from either Henry Rollins or Bowie.......
