The Project began in 2005, in an eclectic studio and living space at the bottom of Frankfort Ave. in Louisville, KY’s Clifton neighborhood. Flamenco Louisville had their studio in the same building, and it made wonderful venue for the visual art exhibits to complement the live local music and streaming video art at our monthly Frankfort Ave. Trolley Friday parties.
Early 2007 brought about the first major change to the project. Our Frankfort Ave. shows ended, and new GHAP President Shannon Stelzer moved out of our original space. Instead, we co-founded the Barret Ave. Third Thursday Trolley Hop with Chez Moi, showing our artists’ works at Monkey Wrench each month. Because of the smaller scope of these events, we had time to distribute art into the community via shows at some of Louisville’s most popular local restaurants, including Maido, 60 West Martini Bar and Crave Cafe and Catering.
During the same period, new GHAP CEO Joshua C. Robinson began to investigate the international emerging arts scene, returning to some of his favorite places in Asia, Europe and South America. He spent almost a year on the road between August 2006 and April 2008, producing a blog about his artistic discoveries for the new GHAP website
Our artistic and social collaborations also included events with Thrown Together, University of Louisville, Lebowski Fest, Forecastle, Peak Summit Festival, Parkinson’s Support Center of Kentuckiana, Center for Women and Families and Kentucky CASA. The Project went on a hiatus from further public events in early 2008 to focus on our current massive overhaul.
In July, the newest member of the Project, Chief Operating Officer Michael Harilson, joined us.
Today, the Project is mainly focused on our new space in the Highlands of Louisville, at 1124 Bardstown Rd., near the intersection with Grinstead Dr, and, at long last, our website. We have incorporated in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and organized a Board of Directors that is bound to operate under the principles of Consensus and Participatory Economics.
Our new space, a 19th-century shotgun house, features a multimedia gallery and an office which can also be used to display artworks. At less than 1000 square feet, it is the perfect size for browsing on typical days, or hosting a VIP lounge during bigger events.
Our new website underwent reservations at about the same time, and is still under development.
Music
We are developing an overwhelming amount of opportunities that provide a lot of exposure for musicians. One of our community outreach projects intends to be a collaboration of visual art and journalism, focusing on the area music scene. We are very interested in promoting local music, and even selling CD's of our artists direct through the retail space, on location, and of course, the virtual gallery.
Movies
We are uprading our new-media experience and are currently accepting artists, photographers, and videographers.
Television
Our goal is to create OUR OWN streaming network of artist portfolios, creative and artistic advertising, performance, original music, live educational and activist correspondence, and active capture of the creative process and it's results, in general.
Books
We want this to be a haven for literary artists, as well. Our services aim to provide internal personal Blog Access, Creative forums, Professional Forums, Message Boards, Publications, as well as job opportunities, and field experience.
Heroes
We exist in loving memory and honor of LAVA House and Chez Moi Gallery. May our whole communities future success be attributed to their for-thinking passion and message.

About me:
The Greenhouse Arts Project is a multi-media agency and resource center, that brings art to business and business to art. Our project seeks to advance a business model that is for-profit, but for people first. For this reason we are bound by the concepts of consensus decision-making, participatory economics, and social responsibility. We want to make artists’ work more accessible to local and global communities, by providing exposure, professional development and collaborative networking.
Who I'd like to meet: The following is a video montage created by Dan Henderson honoring the creative process of the Greenhouse Arts Project and some of the artists we've had the pleasure to feature in the past. This video represents the work of "1400 Drawings by 14 Artists show" curated by Brent Dedas and Shannon Stelzer, Damon Thompson, Kent Ghettsinger, Mason Maxey, Carolyn Kimball, Gina Hardy, Dennis Waddell, Willy Tash, Lonnie Morretton, Beaux Blake, and David Carter. The music is by AM Sunday.
Everyone knows the image of the ‘Starving Artist,’ but few ask why artists should ‘starve’. In this country at least, few artists go hungry for their art, but all too many struggle to make their work a career. With the right tools, this can change:
* Online Store: Qualified artists from anywhere can join and showcase their portfolios and sell their work via our upcoming onlne store, offering payment by credit card and worldwide shipping.
* Agency Membership: Selecting exclusively from our agency members, we'll personally sell work from our retail and satellite galleries
and lease to our business and other clients. We also maintain a list of commissioned work, curate outside events, help with grants and provide other career-enhancing services.
* A la Carte Consultation: We provide help with artists’ statements, portfolio photography, professional-quality promotional videos and other services, even to non-members.
We're excited about the possibilities of what can be done using new media to promote the arts but we need strong creative individuals with progressive ideas to make our project work for everyone. If you would like to participate as an artist please sign up or join the agency.
