About me:
My name is Jennifer Killpack-Knutsen. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am married with two kids. I've lived in Utah my entire life and Salt Lake City for the past 24 years.
I work part-time for two local non-profits, and it's nice to be doing something that is meaningful and rewarding in an emotional and intellectual way, if not financial.
I'm working towards living my values as fully as possible. I believe that we need to live as lightly on the planet as we can to preserve our ecosphere for those that come after us and to prevent wide-spread suffering that our overconsumptive habits could lead to.
I believe in working for social justice and equality for all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, country of birth, or political persuasion. I believe in working towards peace and building strong and healthy communities.
Other than parenting and family life, my main contributions to the world outside these days are blogging (my political/activist/green living blog is Jen's Green Journal) and radical cheerleading with our Utah group, Pom Poms not Bomb Bombs.
My other projects/involvments:
One Utah - I'm an occasional contributor to this blog, which is the most read progressive political blog in Utah
Planet on a Plate - my food, food politics, food and the environment blog
Jen's Vanity Page - my just for fun blog, nothing deep
Who I'd like to meet: Similar interests: I'd like to meet other activists and "treehuggers", people into politics (and I'm interested to find some other "progressive independents" --liberals not obsessed with party loyalty -- out there), people who work for social justice and peace.
Famous: Colin Firth,Helena Bonham Carter, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchet, Emma Thompson, Bono
Other: I'm interested in making new friends from all walks of life. I'm interested in connecting with friends and acquaintances from the past
Thanks for the add. ¶ People hear only what they want, so facts alone won't wake them; they'll need inspiration too. An echo of an echo of Buddha or Jesus becomes encrusted in ritual, and loses context and content. Still, we write what we can. Try to hear the questions behind people's questions. ¶ This world's diverse evils have a common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, and murderers — in market, government, and elsewhere — believe we're all separate, motivated only by self-interest, greed, fear. They want us to share that belief, for they use it to justify themselves, to keep us apart, to control politics and the economy, perpetuating war, poverty, and ecocide. Their power comes not so much from cabals as from trojan memes, ubiquitous propaganda, implicit in ads and in their framing of the news. ¶ But they're mistaken about our motives. You and I have found love inside ourselves and our friends. It's in everyone, if only we can wake them, for we're all one flesh and blood. Let's spread that vision, for until we do our other advances will be minor and temporary. The bureacracy of brutality cannot stand if we open the eyes of its workers. ¶ What is human nature? Our task is not just to describe what we see, but to choose what we hope to become. The ideological battle between love and fear shapes the world, and its outcome is not yet written. Watching, voting, shopping are not enough. If you haven't already, join the global conversation, in whatever way feels right for you. Worldwide enlightenment has no precedent, no rules; we must discover and erase them en route. Make love not war is as serious as Orwell and as light as "Chocolat." ¶ For a start, just talk with people; that may not sound like much, but really it's huge. Spread the word. Each of us knows only part of the song, but keep singing, hoping, resisting, questioning. Hand in hand, we may heal this world yet. — Eric
In the midst of Utah’s $350 million fiscal deficit an extremist out-of-state group is partnering with your anti-choice Utah legislators who want to waste our taxpayer money attempting to criminalize abortion. These legislators and their allies will be holding a press conference tomorrow afternoon, September 30, at the Utah State Capitol to talk about their hopes of banning abortion in Utah and making us a test case for overturning Roe v. Wade.
[Tomorrow afternoon these legislators, with all of their support coming from outside of Utah, will tell us all why they think we should waste taxpayer dollars on litigation to restrict women’s health and reproductive freedom.]
But we at PPAC won’t be taking this outrageous political stunt lying down! Join us tomorrow as we protest this wasteful affront to women’s health and say NO MORE to ideological assaults on Utah women and families. Join us tomorrow as we tell these out-of-touch legislators to move on and work on legislation that will actually HELP us, not harm us! Join us as we stand up to this nonsense:
• Women’s Health Rally: We want to show this small contingent of anti-choice extremists that we are a force that will not let them waste our time and money to restrict our choice. We will meet at the Capitol in the East Building Cafeteria at 1:45 p.m. to protest this absurdity. PPAC will provide all signs and banners. Come help us stand up to this injustice – and bring all of your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers as well.
With the help of some amazing volunteers and staff we have collected nearly 1700 signatures of Utahns supporting comprehensive sex education! We're kicking out even more volunteers events to rock this issue in the coming weeks and we need YOUR help to make these successful. So email ppac@ppau.org or call 328.8939 to sign up.
