"Climate change is not simply an environmental problem, but a threat to international peace, security and development. It has far-reaching implications for the global economy and our prosperity." - Dept. Trade and Industry 2007
Check out our five point plan for smashing carbon emissions:::
1. Use renewable energy
26% of global co2 emissions are caused by electricity and heat generation. Switching to a renewable energy supplier such as ecotricity is the biggest single step anyone can take to slashing their carbon footprint...and for no extra cost!
2. Say no to aviation
Air travel is the fastest growing contributer to climate change. One return trip from UK to Australia produces the same amount of co2 as you could save by living in a completely carbon neutral house for 7 YEARS!! Check out planestupid, airportwatch, seat61. UK: sign the petition to stop aiport exapansion here
3. Eat a healthy low meat diet (or go veggie!)
One of the main drivers for deforestation is to provide land to feed cows. A dairy cow produces the equivalent amount of greenhouse gas emissions as an average family car! A low meat diet is better for you, animals and the planet! Find a local box scheme near you.
5. Enjoy freedom from the car
32% of co2 emissions in the UK are caused by transport. Cars kill roughly 1.2million people a year (the same as malaria and tubercolosis) and seriously injure a further 50million. Check out sustrans, living streets, carfree, and transport2000.
And don't forget to...
A. Keepsharing and learning B. Write to your MP or representative and ask for change. C. Ask what your workplace is doing to promote sustainability and push for change. D. Join a national or local group. Volunteer!

If you know anyone with little ones in the house, or who works with children, please let them know that we have turned our January Book "Parsnip Meets A Snowman" into a short voiced-over film. It's on our myspace page and on youtube.
The book of the month is always available to read free on our own website www. thefoodiesbooks. com but we thought this would be a nice way to reach children who are not yet starting to read.
So if anyone wants to help their child make the connection between weather / seasons and the food they eat, this is a little fun starting point.
What hope do we offer the nuclear race? And what do we do with the nuclear waste? We can’t bury it down, it can’t swim in the sea, So what do we do with this grim legacy? Well I’ll tell you the truth, and I’ll make it quite plain, We can’t shoot it in space, or let it wash down the drain.
So we leave it behind for the kids yet to come, That bittersweet taste of the nuclear bomb.
Well the kids of tomorrow have no words to say For the world we leave and the price they will pay.
Caretakers are we and for what do we stand? For the love of the life on this sacred land.
What hope for the child in this world of ill care Lies deep with the meek on a wing and a prayer, That these Gods will see reason for the land, sea, and air, And the hope in the future for the life that lives there.
Caretakers are we, and for what do we stand? For the love of the life on this sacred land.
What reason for money when you can’t breathe the air? And the oceans and lakes they lay barren and bare, And the streams and the rivers run sewerage and poison With no drink to spair, Caretakers are we, and for what do we stand? For the love of the life on this sacred land.
The ice caps are melting thers holes in the sky, we poison the earth for the sake of a lie, its time for the one and the all standing by to take hold of the reigns and put an end to this crime for we are the meek and now is our time,,,,caretakers are we and for what do we stand,, for the love of all life on this sacred land www. goodisplanetearth.

I hope you are having a beautiful day!!! We are just about to take the first step into the unknown on the next part of our incredible journey. Our goal is to promote children to think for themselves and to give them strength, support, self-confidence and love so that they can grow up into adulthood without fear, doubt and with the belief that they can achieve anything and that there is nothing out of their reach. We want to give them the tools to bring those things to life, the knowing that they can do anything they set their minds too, absolutely anything. We need to allow children to be who they are without imposing our own beliefs onto them.
When we unleash our own creativity, our own passion, free from external sources, that is when we can to begin to find our own original ideas that could create the possibility of a better world. This project will be in the hands of children and it will be them that will create that possibility.
There is nothing more amazing as a child than to have encouragement to go beyond your boundaries and create something unexpected, we want to give children the ability to feel the unexpected but at their own hands, in their control, without doubt and with complete freedom. We will go on that journey with them through our photography and film to bring fun and joy into their hearts to show them what passion and a love of life can truly feel like.
Please subscribe to our site www. theopenmind. org/subscribe or become involved yourself!! help raise awareness and enable us to take this journey to as many children in the world as possible. Xxxx Anne & Lisa
