Chromeo
Chromeo is Pee Thugg and Dave 1 Chromeo (web | myspace) best friends since their adolescence and virtuoso musicians. Pee and Dave met in 1993. “I really didn’t like him at first,” Pee recalls, “because I was with mostly hip hop kids and he was hanging out with the skaters and listening to rock and roll.” But bonding over their shared love for funk, the two became inseparable. After spending the last couple of years in support of their triumphant Fancy Footwork album, Chromeo teamed up with Green Label Sound to offer a sneak peak of their upcoming musical odyssey, and their first original song since 2007: the heroic, guitar-laded, disco masterpiece “Night by Night.”.
Theophilus London
Brooklyn's own Theophilus London (web | myspace) is a pioneer in today's electro-fueled urban pop movement. His self-released mixtapes JAM! and This Charming Mixtape had blogs ablaze last year as he expertly rhymed on everything from Kraftwerk, Amadou & Mariam and a classic Whitney Houston torch song to his own unexpectedly clubby jams. Recently London has toured the US and UK with A-Trak and Jack Peñate and turned heads at Rolling Stone, NME, The FADER and The New York Times. It's on now: Theophilus London's debut single "Humdrum Town" is available on Green Label Sound.
Amazing Baby
NYC based Amazing Baby (Myspace | Web) formed in 2008. Since then, the gutsy psych-rock group has been showered with praise from every corner of the blogosphere. Their newly recorded single, "Supreme Being," mixed by super-producer Dave Sardy (LCD Soundsystem, Oasis, etc..), is the next release from Green Label Sound. "Supreme Being" was originally intended for their debut album, but it wasn't quite fully realized enough the first time around, so Green Label Sound got the band back in the studio to rerecord the song and brought in Dave Sardy to finalize a new version of "Supreme Being."
HOLY GHOST
NYC’s rising disco kings
Known for their 2008 hit “Hold On,” remixes for the likes of Moby, MGMT, Phoenix and Cut Copy, critically-heralded Brooklyn duo Holy Ghost! is Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel. Friends since childhood, the pair grew up on NYC's Upper West Side. Learning from NYC producers The DFA (aka James Murphy & Tim Goldsworthy), Holy Ghost! bring their love for old-school synthesizers to their new single, “I Will Come Back,” a five and a half-minute dance floor epic, featuring the angelic voices of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. This latest Green Label Sound single will also be featured on Holy Ghost!’s highly-anticipated debut album due out early next year on DFA Records.
UNI
UNI (www | myspace) Born from the ashes of gangsta rap, Los Angeles is experiencing an indie hip-hop resurgence. Inglewood rap duo U-N-I are the talk of the Internet and guiding hip-hop's path in the city by juxtaposing music with customized fashion and a positive outlook. Their progressive swagger and throwback fashion sense may initially compel comparisons to hipsters, but the duo’s truth is at once more complex and far simpler: YO has been sporting a vibrant mohawk for going on five years. Thurz notes that the group is innately fashion-conscious and not willing to sacrifice substance for style. YO explains, “What duo out of Cali you know looks like us? My man Thurz stays with the latest hats and kicks. I stay in thrift shops putting together $20 outfits and still walk the Red Carpet.”
Flosstradamus Featuring Caroline Polachek
(myspace | Chairlift Music) "Big Bills" marks the first artist collaboration released by Green Label Sound and the first original production release from Chicago DJ/Production duo Flosstradamus. Flosstradamus have toured with Chromeo, A-Trak and Kid Sister and remixed the likes of Bloc Party, The Cool Kids and Matt and Kim. Caroline Polachek is the lead singer of the band Chairlift, whose recent track "Bruises" has received critical and commercial success worldwide.
Kuroma
(www.kuromamusic.com) The Tripwire recently called Kuroma a "genius at work" and that "his performance was gushing with confidence." The NME simply says,"he's an unlikely hero in the making" and called Kuroma's three-piece ensemble one of the 'Top 10 Bands of CMJ." Lead singer and founder Hank Sullivant is an ex-member of The Whigs and a former touring member of MGMT. "In New York, Everything is Tropical" mixed by Rich Travali, who has worked with Pharrell, Jay-Z and Nas.
