Bio
What you see is what you get with Greenland. Not style, not hype, not glamour. Five guys quietly writing tunes. Good tunes. Unassumingly rocking those tunes into your psyches. Patiently plotting to make those tunes the soundtrack of your lives. Like every band, Greenland is a product of its past - the 90s alt-rock of their youth filtered through the best of 60s pop all the way to the self-made indie giants of the new musical age. What stands out is an innate sense of melody, pop hooks, and catchy choruses – a classic mixture with a timeless quality. Greenland realizes that the power of the arts lies in the audience's passion for introspection. Disillusionment, identity, and isolation are recurring themes; it’s sometimes deep, and always honest. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun – come to the shows, listen to the tunes, and see for yourself. -

"Listen to 'The Way It Is' from Nashville band Greenland's self-titled EP, and you won't be surprised that the track was awarded Best Song in a recent YouTube Underground video contest."
-Birmingham Magazine
"Although they only formed last January ... Nashville locals Greenland have already established a rather impressive following from Lexington, Va., to Knoxville and, of course, here in Nashville. They have a quintessentially poppy sound that resonates with listeners who appreciate an unusual blend of balladry and existential musings on 'Rip Van Winkle.' Underneath the wispy composition of tunes like 'The Way It Is,' Greenland confronts the angst-ridden conscience of one whose life is without progress: 'I never understood why I have always backed down,' vocalist Evan James wails before concluding, 'People never change, that’s the way it is.' Yet according to James and those who recently crowned Greenland champion of The Muse’s Battle of the Bands earlier this month, the quintet is evolving."

"['The Way It Is'] blends a sturdy bass line with both ‘70s and ‘90s guitar voicings and influences, plus a slashing lead vocal that nicely amplifies the tune’s message that any substantive social change must come through action rather than talk.
"But it’s hardly some sort of super-serious topical work. The singing and musical backing are loose and joyous, with the video for the tune echoing that sensibility through the use of interesting animation and figures ranging from animal figurines to a quick shot of Superman."
-Ron Wynn - Nashville City Paper
