LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, FRIENDS FROM OTHER PLANETS (and other dimensions)...INTRODUCING THE NEW EP FROM GREEN MONITOR !!!
Four songs, two instrumentals, one heart... Presenting the eagerly anticipated new songs from GREEN MONITOR. These four wizards have stolen the music of the heavenly spheres and planted it, sprinkling the holy waters of folk, electro soul, trance, psychedelia, space rock and world music to birth a new revolution in sound. God knows its been aeons in the waiting and now its here for you to finally enjoy! Track one: EMBRACE... features Annette Buckley on vocals. A fine example of electro soul with a mantra like simplicity. Track two: THE MOUNTAIN SONG...A track that features both the Harmonium and a Saz (a Turkish stringed instrument)with some bad ass beats. Track three: UNTO THE SEA...again featuring Annette, is a slice of timeless folkadelic and Track four PITCHBLACK... is a spacefunk progrock opus which defies gravity.
Emerging from the loins of roots dub combo The BEATROOTS featuring The Man EZEKE and before that 1990s rude boys BLOW... ARON BENNETT (guitars, flute, keyboards) and LOZ FITZGIBBON ( bass, harmonium, vintage fx, keyboards) formed GREEN MONITOR in 2003 as a project to showcase their more experimental ideas. Taking a passion for playing live, they married these to a love of sound exploration and their myriad of influences. With a mutual respect for the likes of Lee Scratch Perry and King Tubbys studio approach, Loz and Aron set about stripping both folk and dubroots music and reconstructing it using both organic and technological processes alike. Categories are strange bedfellows when mentioning GREEN MONITOR. Almost jazz like in their approach, their juxtaposing of music both on record and live causes confusion when one tries to categorize their sound.
In 2003 drummer and percussionist CLIVE GASH (Bitchman, ab/cd, Shamanka) joined the duo adding his knowledge of world percussion to bring Green Monitor to the next level. That year the band contributed several tracks to the award winning Irish Burning Man documentary DUST DEVILS and released their eponomously titled debut album GREEN MONITOR garnering international recognition and acclaim from the likes of DARREN EMERSON and NIGHTMARES ON WAX. In 2005 the band supported and remixed a song by New Zealand's PITCHBLACK as well as playing with their fellow countrymen FAT FREDDYS DROP. The Annette Buckley/Green Monitor collaboration Blinded was also included on the double SOUTHERN FRIED 2 compilation (check out the peoplesrepublicofcork website). GREEN MONITOR also headlined the Saturday night slot in the Body/Soul area of the ELECTRIC PICNIC festival in Co.Laois that year. In 2007 ANNETTE BUCKLEY jumped back onto the GREEN MONITOR bus to record two more songs, adding her distinctive pastoral approach to the table. Over the last couple of years the band have been playing the blossoming Irish festival circuit like The MANTUA ARTS FESTIVAL,THE LIFE FESTIVAL and THE irish GREEN GATHERING..GREEN MONITOR is a unique ever changing creative dynamic. All multi instrumentalists, when playing live the band change from instrument to instrument weaving together a sonic tapestry. On stage they seduce the audience, lulling them into a state of beatific bliss before mashing up the dance floor. Without getting into the usual cliches, folks you will never forget a GREEN MONITOR show...but dont take our word for it...
