To be honest, when our
company began back in 1998, we were always trying to please every customer that
walked through our doors --- we tried to be like "other bath stores". Going
green with our company was about creating products that demonstrate WHO WE ARE
-- nature lovers. It became more important to us to educate our customers about
all the wonderful, natural products that we create. Good, chemical-free
ingredients make better sense: for the environment, for our customers and for
our own peace of mind.
OUR STORY
The Green Pergola is
the product of two men who shared an interest in aromatherapy, herbalism and the
naturalist lifestyle.
The interest began with Gregory
back in 1998 when he saw the film Practical Magic and fell in love with
the botanical store owned by Sally (played by Sandra Bullock) Curious, he began
reading about making natural bath products. Around the same time, a friend
offered him a job as a member of management in the well-known bath store, Garden
Botanika (he was painting houses for a living at the time). When the retail
chain closed, his interest in skin care and aromatherapy led to the development
of his own line of products for sale at craft shows and home parties. Later,
Gregory shared his interest with Roy, a reflexologist and Reiki therapist who
shared his passion for nature and natural products. As a team, the two created
what the company has become today with the approach of offering only quality,
handmade products that can be found in homes across the country.
The two work closely beside a team
of hand-picked employees that take on each and every product like true
artisans. Everything is made from scratch using their own, original formulas
that incorporate flowers, herbs and real essential oils from nature. 1000's of
pounds of soap are created each year that is still cut into bars completely by
hand. Each and every candle is stirred and poured by hand. Even the packaging,
which is a combination of sleek and rustic, is produced
in-house.
What began as
a small, craft-oriented business has branched out into a full retail store, a
frequently visited internet site and wholesale accounts where Green Pergola soaps are sold. From a natural pharmacy in New York City to a Day Spa in Los Angeles, Green Pergola products are found coast to coast.
Both Roy and Gregory are
practicing, certified aromatherapists with certification from the
Canadian-based International Institute of Aromatherapy.
The Green Pergola
is based out of Nashville, Tennessee. Quality products and good
customer service is the mainstay of the company. Every product gives complete
ingredient listings, letting you know exactly what it is that you are buying
(and putting on your skin). Every product has been directly tested by the
owners, as well as many others of various skin types. Pure, natural ingredients
and botanicals are used whenever possible. If an item does not meet our
standards of high quality... you, the customer, will never see the product.
