Jamie Greer's Interests
General
Things that energize my soul: Hollypop in all her glorious forms, music, chocolate and peanut butter together as one, Guinness, love, camping, sleeping in, poetry, cuddling, documentaries about animals, movies about failed romances (and ones where they succeed), misfits (in society, not the band, although I DO like the band as well...), glam rock, being a rock star, gin, dancing, The Muppets, my harmonica, hanging with good company, discussing topics of importance or joking about things of irrelevance, picking up the pieces of a broken heart and watching someone else mould it into a new one.
You Are Gonzo the Great
"Is something burning in here? Oh, it's just me."
You're a total nutball who will do anything for attention.
The first to take a dare, you'll pull almost any stunt.
You're one weird looking creature, but your chickens don't mind!
You will drink too much gin. Not the worst way to die, but you won't remember too much of your life. Hey, at least you made some people laugh! Take this quiz!
Currently listening to: The Black Angels 'Passover', Camera Obscura 'Let's Get Out of This Country', Patrick Watson 'Close to Paradise', The Besnard Lakes 'The Besnard Lakes are the Dark Horse', Taj Mahal 'Taj Mahal', Arcade Fire 'Neon Bible', The Beatles 'LOVE', Ratatat 'Classics', Ox 'Dust Bowl Revival'.
All-Time Favourites: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Leonard Cohen, Jane's Addiction, Johnny Cash, David Bowie, The Band, Willie Nelson, Bauhaus, Iggy & The Stooges, New York Dolls, Velvet Underground, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, Tool, Kiss. Way too many!

Television
Don't really watch much of it. Rots the soul and creates a sense of nothingness really. And not the good kind of nothingness. But I do watch some things, usually after they come out on DVD...The Muppet Show, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Arrested Development, Lost, Deadwood, The Venture Brothers, Robot Chicken, Heroes, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
The History of the Blues: The Roots, The Music, The People (Francis Davis), Please Kill Me: The Oral History of Punk (Legs McNeil & Gillian McCain), The Beatles: The Love You Make (Peter Brown), Everyday Zen (Charlotte Joko Beck), Waylon (Waylon Jennings), Cash (Johnny Cash), Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs (Chuck Klosterman), How To Talk Dirty and Influence People (Lenny Bruce), Whores: The Oral Biography of Jane's Addiction (Brendan Mullen), Down The Highway: The Life of Bob Dylan (Howard Sounes), A Confederacy of Dunces (John Kennedy Toole), anything by Charles Bukowski, Leonard Cohen, Lord Byron, Oscar Wilde, Dorothy Parker, William S. Burroughs, John Lennon. I like the odd comic book now and then too: Nightwing, Batman, Outsiders, Fables, Astonishing X-Men, New Avengers, DC's whole Crisis thing (Crisis on Infinite Earths and the new Infinite Crisis), anything Booster Gold is in...
Heroes
Anyone who inspires me or has inspired me to be better than who I am at any given moment. My great loves, who have left me broken just to reform the pieces in an evolving sense of self. Each has left fingerprints on a heart in progress. Also: the first person to combine chocolate and peanut butter; John Lennon; Gandhi; Che Gueverra; Subcommandante Marcos; Leonard Cohen; Charlotte Joko Beck; Jim Henson.
About me:
Hello. I'm Jamie Greer. I am a musician, music journalist, DJ, bartender and musicologist of the Windsor, Ontario music scene.
I currently play in two bands in the Windsor area. The first is my long-standing roots rock band The Hung Jury, a band I started in 2003 with long-time pal Kelly Nicholls. It's since blossomed into a four piece and we've just been featured nationwide on CBC Radio's Definitely Not The Opera radio show, hosted by Sook-Yin Lee. The other band is The Golden Hands Before God Conducts Incredible Magic Band & The Spirits, a psychedelic garage rock band. We've also been on the CBC and played with some stellar national acts.
I also write The Windsor Scene each month in Upfront Magazine, a small section that deals with news and notes from Windsor's vibrant and creative local ORIGINAL music scene. I also run a companion Blog with a little more intimate reviews, news, etc. I love this city's music scene and I try very hard to make sure people are at least aware of the diversity and sounds coming from our streets. Funny enough, The Windsor Star recently called me the "local music guru"...haha.
Hello! What do you think are the best Windsor albums ever? Alexander Skip Spence's Oar? Bloemfontein's The Longer Now? The Dry Heaves' Shoot Yourself? Richie Hawtin's DE9? Luxury Christ's Buy Our Love? You tell us your picks & why?
You may also vote on myspace, just send us a message!
I will be playing a solo performance at the Taloola Cafe on April 5, 2008. Space is limited in this intimate setting. It's an early show and all ages are welcome. Hope to see you out.
Talola Cafe is located at 396 Devonshire Windsor Ont. in Walkerville.
I can't wait to get the CD done and do some shows where I can hopefully meet some of you.
I wish I had a time machine and could blast forward and start doing shows tomorrow.
