One big paradox. The sound is innovative yet accessible, moronic yet sophisticated, experimental yet basic, familiar yet not.
Limbs Are Absent began as a group of friends getting together once, or twice a week to simply improvise and experiment. We had the habit of recording everytime we played. This resulted in hours and hours worth of recorded material. After about 8 months we made a conscious decision to solidify the group and begin working on songs. Over the following 8 months we focused on producing a CD with 31 tracks. The result was a compilation that incorporated our composed songs as well as "fabricated" songs that were crafted from edited chunks of the various improv sessions. Through the use of digital wave editing, we were able to Frankenstein these happy accidents into structured songs that defy the usual trappings of rock improvisation aka "jamming." Even the band members couldn't recognize the origins of some songs, which leads to a strange feeling of detachment and wonder. This method of composition led to the production of two other albums. As the old saying goes," you can't write this stuff."
Limbs Are Absent disbanded in the summer of 2004 when Derrick moved to China.
Currently Derrick is playing drums in Spiral Cow.
Hung is working with T.J. Wade as Terroristic.
Aaron is leading Muppletone, and is involved with Austin Cobra Players, Adam Sultan, Invincible Czars, and Bee vs. Moth.
Mark is leading Foot Sex Surprise and Furserpentexplodeshandlebarmustachios.
Michelle is forging ahead with her own band.
