About me: Greg Wilkinson has more than ten years experience in the underground scene, and has a real passion for electronic music. He got interested in Dj'ing in 1995 when working with his brother who was a radio Dj for Rhodes University campus radio. Shortly afterwards he then got a residency at a club in Port Elizabeth called Cadillac Jacks. It was a rock and roll dinner, with a small dance floor. He played 60's, 70's and commercial club hits. Despite the music not being exactly what he liked, the bug bit him!
In 1996 Greg moved to London where he really got into the whole underground culture there and especially fell in love with trance. He slowly built up his equipment and started Dj'ing at house parties. After two years he returned to Johannesburg and immediately made a name for himself. He played at events such as Suck My Decks, the Lounge and Subterrain, and spun next to some of South Africa's best Dj's. He also held weekly residency at the Punter and Trouserleg.
In 2001 Greg moved to San Diego, California. This has opened his eyes and ears to different styles of music. He started listening more to house, progressive house, breaks, drum & bass, and tries to incorporate all these elements in his mixes. Nowadays his sets have moved on to electro house with a deep, hard and moody progressive edge. "Programming is what sets Dj's apart from each other, I do not want to sound like the other progressive Dj's by playing the same tracks," says
Greg.
Greg has played at some of San Diego's top clubs like OnBroadway, Crudos, B Lounge, Kadan's and more. In early 2007 he also started an radio station called
Static Progress. It is an online station broadcasting all forms of underground electronic dance music. Check it out to hear some of Greg's shows!
