AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY
In 2009, Dreadzone are set to roll like thunder with a new album out in the new year and an explosive new single that sounds like no one else and is a timely reminder of the depth and originality of this unique British group. The new single ‘Beyond A Rock’ is out on 6 July 2009. 'Beyond A Rock' pumps with a bass heavy swagger, rock guitar, electro riffs and fat drums underpinning a memorable vocal hook and a rap of relentless drama. Recorded by capturing their live feel and then mixed by breakbeat sonic maestro Inchie (Ctrl Z) this is an adrenalin rush of a tune that defies genre and straddles the worlds of rock and dance effortlessly.
The band with roots in Big Audio Dynamite have had a 6 album career which has spanned the credibility of a Creation Records release, major moves on Virgin and independent support on Functional and Rufflife. Cited by John Peel as having recorded one of his 10 favourite albums of all time, the top 20 hit from that album ‘Little Britain’ has since acquired classic status. Dreadzone was formed by Greg Dread, writer, producer, DJ, drummer, programmer and sample addict back in 1992 along with fellow founder Tim Bran. After extensive touring and making the first four albums as a member of the original Big Audio Dynamite in the eighties Greg left to form Screaming Target with Don Letts and Leo Williams before finding his spiritual home in the House of Dread. As the mainstay Greg steered Dreadzone through calm and troubled waters throughout their 17 year history through different line ups including constant members Leo Williams (ex BAD), Earl 16 and MC Spee, always trusting in the power of the music to keep the dread fire burning. Others to pass through the ranks were Dan Donovan, Dave Harrow, Donna McKevitt, Rob Marche, Ben Balafonic and the late Steve Roberts, who sadly passed away in 2006.
Founder member Greg Dread, original bassmaster Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee, legendary reggae vocalist Earl 16 alongside new members Chris Compton on guitar and Chris Oldfield on technology make up the current team of dreadz. A full live schedule gives them chance to try the new tracks out on eager crowds. Their dynamic live show has been central to the story since the early days and continues to blow away audiences worldwide. More natty than ever, Dreadzone return with a summer download single and a tour as long as yer arm!
