Hakkımda: I have been playing the guitar since I was 13 years old. Starting out with a classical instructor, I studied for almost 4 years on nylon string accoustic learning finger style and how to read music. Electric guitar was looked down upon by certain classical instructors and mine was no exception. So, I was forbidden to use one by my teacher. I did at home but I never told him. My interests in playing began to change and I had a great desire to learn Rock guitar. So I left classical studies and moved on to another teacher who taught me various styles such as Hendrix, Robin Trower, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush and Clapton. I stayed with this teacher for 3 years before going off on my own. I began teaching myself from records and tapes learning as much as I could. The arrival of Randy Rhoads changed my musical direction and I began to try and learn everything about his style of playing. I soon realized that there were endless possibilities from Randy Rhoads' technique but I was only scratching the surface. I joined an Ozzy tribute band "Master Force" in 1983 and played most of the rock clubs in NY. It wasn't until I joined my 1st original band "Saintly Sinner" that I began to realize that my playing was not where I wanted it to be. I had only played cover music yet now I was forced to write my own solos and I was having a great deal of trouble. It was at this time, while on my way down to play at Lamour Brooklyn in October of 1984 that someone played me a tape of a little known guitarist from Europe. The name of the band was "Steeler" and the player was Yngwie Malmsteen. I was stunned at what I heard and knew right then and there that I needed a major overhaul in technique and approach to the instrument.
I had heard of a teacher up in Ossining NY at Ossining Music Center named Lou Ubriaco who was teaching all the latest alternate picking, arpeggio, sweep, string skipping techniques. I began lessons with him in 1985 and stayed with him until January of 1991.
Lou changed my life and my playing. I owe everything to him and his unconditional willingness to teach. He never chose my musical direction but he gave me all the tools and guidance I needed to progress to where I am today. During this time in 1986 I was approached by the members of an all original band "Silent Listener" and asked if I would be interested in recording all the guitar solos for their upcoming debut EP "Veterans of The Fight". I agreed and it was released that same year. I decided to join staying with them until 1989. We played all over New York at all the major rock clubs including The Cat Club, all of Lamour's (Brooklyn, Queens and Far East) and The Ritz. We opened a for a few national bands as well such as Fog Hat and Savatage. In 1989 I left to audition for another original band "Vandal". Although this band was short lived, I had the chance to play with my first keyboard player and that changed my whole outlook on writing and playing. Unfortunately this band broke up suddenly and that was the final straw for me. I had decided that I wasn't going to play in bands anymore because I couldn't take another dismal result. Playing countless shows and rehearsing only to watch yet another project break up over nothing just broke my spirit and I thought about just fading away. But, after several months and at the urging of many people I decided to give it one last try starting my own band "LIVESAY". It has been a tough labor of love for me but well worth it. We have done 2 CDs released internationally as well as headlining and opening up for many National acts over the years. Bands such as Dio, Steve Morse, Vince Neal, Mr. Big, Sebastian Bach, Pat Travers, Danger Danger, Saigon Kick, LA Guns, Fates Warning, Ratt, Lynch Mob, Dokken, Warrant, Dee Snyder, Bullet Boys, Bonham, Leslie West, UFO, Michael Shenker, Thin Lizzy, Angel, Britney Fox, Gregg Howe and many others. Currently my band LIVESAY is recording our 3rd CD. Thanks for stopping in!
