Sounds Like

“Once in a while an artist comes along who reminds you why you got into music in the first place. Greg’s lyrics are absolutely fantastic. I love it” - Tom Robinson

“Genius songwriter - our poet laureate” - Mike Krugman and Jason Cohen, Rolling Stone

“A spirit; a gruff voiced fop with political concience in Spanish heels and eyeliner. Should go far” - NME’s Daniel Martin

“One of the most charismatic singers in the business” - The Fly

“Classic song-writing and insightful lyrics… become one of the privileged few” - Rocksound

“With Greg at the helm anything is possible. Some of his lyrics show an extremely rare insight into life which few songwriters ever seem to achieve” - Drowned in Sound

“Greg McDonald is one of our favourite songwriters, in the mould of Mike Scott, Kelly Jones and Bruce Springsteen” – Record of the Day

“Amazing” – Steve Lamacq

“Timeless” - Original Sin, Holland

“Romantic and visionary… great, great songs” - Glammage

“Touching poetry” - UK Fusion

“Almost as good with words as me!” – Steve Knightley, Show of Hands

“Brutally personal, impressive song writing. Cutting honesty and social commentary.” - Jo Valance, Room Thirteen

“Stunning and emotional, Greg’s lyrics pull at the heartstrings and paint a vivid picture of everyday life, the stories spun are captivating and you find yourself transported.” - Will Munn, Rhythm & Booze

“East Anglia’s gift to the world” – John Peel

“Greg is a child of The Smiths who loves the E Street Band. Catchy, slamming songs.” – Stereophile magazine

“East Anglia’s Springsteen. These feelings are transcribed so genuinely they convey yearnings deeper and fuller than anyone else today. All songwriters are full of genuine emotion, whether simmering hate or pent up love, but mostly the words dribble from their pathetic mouths, ending up as wet and soppy as a burst balloon. These songs are so good simply because Greg can articulate his deepest feelings to you in so few words.” - Tom King, REPEAT

“Very mellow and atmospheric. I like it.” – Zita, Z Management

“The arrangements of the words and the meter are brilliant. Manages to be clever without being glib, and I’m jealous. Really really good.” - Matt Abysmal, The Resistance

“Loving the new songs. Fairy Tale Rehab is one of the best pieces of poetry I know.” Jeff, www.cherryecho.com

“Really beautiful music” - Orange and Blue Music

“I wont be surprised if Greg does a David Gray and rules drive-time the world over. I’ll be very happy too.” - Tom Lee, www.treblezine.com

“Distinctive style, quality lyrics… ‘Stranger at the Door’ is very cinematic and reminded me of the Sagrada Familia” – Dutch Van Spall, Big Help Management

“Things of beauty” - Blue Cat Café

“I really like Greg’s stuff, especially "The Firedrake". I hear a little Leonard Cohen tinge.” - Andy, The Icarus Club

“Incredible song-writing” - Tim Tori, www.therockit.com

“I went to The Barfly on Sunday, intending to watch Carina Round, who I’ve heard a lot about over the years. First on was Greg McDonald who I did a few gigs with back in the day. I remember the first time I saw The Dawn Parade really clearly - there Greg was in make up, wearing a vest with an ammunition belt printed across it, with a plastic rose hanging off his wrist, throwing shapes in the middle of a crowd of enthusiastic teenagers, playing these incredibly evocative stadium sized songs. The band were on fire and all excellent at what they were doing. I loved it. My ears were ringing for days. I saw them quite a lot over the next couple of years, and pretty much always loved it. Everything falls apart in the end though. He did a lot of new stuff on Sunday (which is good, check out the myspace), but threw one Dawn Parade song in at the end. It actually brought a tear to my eye.” – Paul Goodwin

“Brilliant” – Phil Beer, Show of Hands

“Cracking“ - James Leeds, singer from Cord

“Brilliant!” - Totti

“Passionate, wide-eyed, anthemic pop that tastes of timeless classic song writing” - Organ

“Greg McDonald’s voice has a beautiful, Dylan-esque quality that will stay with you for a long time” – Entertainment Guide

“Greg McDonald sings of life in a small town in middle England with the same poetry that Springsteen did about the minutiae of Americana before he started making coffee albums for the masses. Flair and panache - a Bowie of tomorrow” - Tony Shevlin

“Great songs!” - Cambridge Riffs

“Really amazing. Greg McDonald is a singer in the vein of Leonard Cohen, but with Jacques Brel overtones. The songs are staggeringly beautiful, and anyone who hates James Blunt and David Gray should love him.” - Rod, No One Died

“We can’t believe that the music industry hasn’t snapped Greg McDonald up with a great song like Dead Man’s Hand. Greg is definitely the best we have heard for a long time.” - Christine, MasterPaul Entertainment “Beautiful” - Billy Friends of the Bride

“A voice full of soul” - www.tiscali.com

“Great songs” – Tom, One Fifteen Music

“Stranger At The Door sounds fantastic - great voice and a really interesting sound” - Joe Stolen Car

“Greg’s songs achieve the near impossible feat of appearing to talk directly to you about your own life while addressing universal themes. Magnificent.” - Richard Rose, editor, R*E*P*E*A*T*

   About Greg McDonald
“Once in a while an artist comes along who reminds you why you got into music in the first place. Greg’s lyrics are fantastic. I love it.” - 6Music’s Tom Robinson.

Greg McDonald is an English singer-songwriter, based in London, and mixing debut album “Stranger at the Door”.

From punch the air indie anthems to dark murder ballads, Greg’s songs have drawn comparison with Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen

“Stranger at the Door”, the forthcoming semi-acoustic debut produced by Sam Inglis, is an eclectic, lyrical singer-songwriter record which ranges from hushed intimacy to indie guitars via ambient electro. A lyrical, late night collection of songs set against a dark, contemporary UK landscape, Stranger at the Door takes in illegal immigration, foreign holiday murders, madness, mysticism and the end of the world, and is shot through with McDonald’s abiding passion for powerful songs over musical fashions. The song “Dead Man’s Hand” recently won New York’s International Songwriting Competition.

An eclectic artist with hundreds of songs, not to mention film themes and at least one musical to his name, Greg’s songwriting has won Single of the Year awards from America’s Rolling Stone and high praise from British journalists (“a spirit… should go far” – NME, “transcendent - The Fly) and fellow songwriters Robyn Hitchcock, Tom Robinson and Show of Hands to name a few.

Greg’s songs have received extensive play on Radio 1 and Radio 2, BBC 6Music and XFM, and made fans of Mark Radcliffe, Steve Lamacq and Record of the Day. Greg has recorded with Radiohead / Muse producer and longtime John Leckie partner Chris Brown, and Editors / Carina Round / Annie Lennox producer Gavin Mongahan.

Greg’s extensive gigging in the UK and America - clocking up several hundred appearances, performing at industry events and appearing on discussion panels at Austin’s South by South West Festival and Manchester’s In the City, and playing live on Radio One, 6Music and XFM – has won a cult following from Canada to Italy to Australia, and Greg has recently played alongside Carina Round, Chris TT, Tom Robinson, Robyn Hitchcock, Show of Hands, Joanna and the Wolf, Friends of the Bride, Keane, Kings of Leon, All About Eve, The Ordinary Boys, Tom Robinson, Johnny Panic, British Sea Power, The Stranglers, Jetplane Landing and Steve Harley. Greg recently made up one third of a Fierce Panda acoustic “stripped” UK tour, on which he dueted with Fierce Panda signing Kari Kleiv.

In 2008, Greg is playing solo and with harmony singers Emily Jukes and Catherine McDonald and guitarist Seymour Patrick.

“Greg's songs achieve the near impossible feat of appearing to talk directly to you about your own life while addressing universal themes. Magnificent.” - R*E*P*E*A*T*

Hi Greg,

Really like Dead Man's Hand, great to see you're still crafting 'em.

And thanks for befriending trunkdog!
Have you had a chance to listen to any of our songs yet? if so, and they made you laugh, maybe you could tell your friends and spread the joy a bit?

We recently played a set of three songs LIVE on Sue Marchant's show on BBC Radio and have just completed a double performance of our "Complementary Hooter Show" on May Bank Holiday weekend to packed houses and a 20-minuter at The Masons Arms in Bury St Edmunds.
Next we've got the Wivenhoe Funny Farm comedy club on 29th May, followed by a showcase at The Masons Arms on 9th July. if you're anywhere near either gigs, maybe you can come to see us? All the details are on our myspace page.

thanks again, looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hello again Greg, thank you so much for your kind comment, I am so touched by that. Hey I wish I could write a song like that! And "Dead Man's Hand", first time I've heard it, another again I just have to salute your talent and your insight.

Yes, Andrew is running some of the sessions, I haven't managed to get to one yet but hope to soon. And to see you in the Autumn, it would be wonderful to play on the same bill with you again!

Love from Heather x

Someone's stuck a few Dawn Parade songs on YouTube and I got to hear Broke on Angel Street for the first time and it's absolutely magnificent.

I've told my girlfriend the next time we're in England we have to come to one of your gigs :)

Hope all is well your end.

Hey :-) It's taken me a bit of time to thank you for one of the most thoughtful comments i've ever had about my music. To be honest, i was hoping i'd think of something interesting to say. Unfortunately, all i can think of is ... thanks.

You're right, the Tracy Chapman comparison is a common (but much appreciated)one. The Greg Dulli one is unique tho (and has prompted me to re-seek out some of his stuff).

Hope all's good in the world of you x Rai

Hey :-) Lovely to meet you last night. I really love your music (it was great last night, and is still great today minus the beer!). The harmonies were beautiful, and i loved the fact that you played a song completely unplugged and left the stage. Hope you get a chance to listen to my tunes. Let me know what you think.
