“Redolent of Al Stewart at his poetic best, or perhaps even Leonard Cohen himself. Strummed, string-swept and captivating, McDonald’s songs are studded with observational wit, as happy relating encounters with dragons as the downfall of crackheads.” - Q
“Genius songwriter” - Rolling Stone
“McDonald movingly sings his oddball tales tinged with sadness; comedy and tragedy collide deliciously” - Music Week

“If you're looking for the new Leonard Cohen, here he is. Commanding vocals, rich instrumental arrangements and enigmatically poetic lyrics… a singer-songwriter of class.” - Rychard Carrington, Moving Tone
“An eerie take on folk music, painting vivid images with the lyrics, key examples being Cheap Flight to Paradise and Fairytale of New Cross.” - Rhian Daly, Moving Tone
"Stranger at the Door" is defiantly and definitely a Greg McDonald record - those stirring lyrics, that indecipherable pining, that unerring ear for a good tune all remain to charm and tease the great and the good. His subject matter may now range from illegal immigration to Spanish murders, madness and the end of the world, his influences may have grown to include the likes of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, but these are all still songs tackled in what should be hitherto known as GMW, The Greg McDonald Way. It is a tribute to Greg that his voice is so much his own that his way of expressing himself, a way that encapsulates beauty, poetry, wistfulness, tragedy and a tune your mum can whistle along to, all at once makes him one of very few people I know whose artistic interpretation of the world (GMW) is instantly recognisable and easily enjoyable." - Richard Rose
“Song-writing of the highest order, reminiscent of Brett Anderson and Suede at their peak” – Rhythm Online

“East Anglia’s gift to the world” – John Peel
“Greg is a child of The Smiths who loves the E Street Band. Catchy, slamming songs.” – Stereophile magazine
“East Anglia’s Springsteen. These feelings are transcribed so genuinely they convey yearnings deeper and fuller than anyone else today. All songwriters are full of genuine emotion, whether simmering hate or pent up love, but mostly the words dribble from their pathetic mouths, ending up as wet and soppy as a burst balloon. These songs are so good simply because Greg can articulate his deepest feelings to you in so few words.” - Tom King, REPEAT
“Loving the new songs. Fairytale Rehab is one of the best pieces of poetry I know.” - www.cherryecho.com

“Incredible song-writing” - Tim Tori, www.therockit.com
“I went to The Barfly on Sunday, intending to watch Carina Round, who I've heard a lot about over the years. First on was Greg McDonald who I did a few gigs with back in the day. I remember the first time I saw The Dawn Parade really clearly - there Greg was in make up, wearing a vest with an ammunition belt printed across it, with a plastic rose hanging off his wrist, throwing shapes in the middle of a crowd of enthusiastic teenagers, playing these incredibly evocative stadium sized songs. The band were on fire and all excellent at what they were doing. I loved it. My ears were ringing for days. I saw them quite a lot over the next couple of years, and pretty much always loved it. Everything falls apart in the end though. He did a lot of new stuff on Sunday (which is good, check out the myspace), but threw one Dawn Parade song in at the end. It actually brought a tear to my eye.” – Paul Goodwin
