Hailing from the same suburban Chicago high school that gave us John Hughes, Lil Beck (a.k.a. Greg Oguss) moved to New York City to play guitar for the Alt-Rock group The Rolls. The band was a local favorite, performing at venues such as CBGB’s, the Mercury Lounge, the Continental Divide and many others. In 2000, the group split up and Oguss headed for Los Angeles.
For the next several years, Oguss was in and out of hospitals, battling a nerve disease and the effects of pain medications. Meanwhile, he began writing and recording music. Since 2005, under the name Lil Beck, he has self-recorded and released four full-length albums: "From Shit to Champagne," "Mr. Low-Fi Guy," "Dyin’ Ain’t Loofy" and "Life After Hip Hop." Under the name Carman 9, he released an EP, "Moj & Greg Ride Again," with The Rolls' Moj Brookstein. The albums feature an eclectic mix of Garage Rock, Blues, Hip-Hop, Punk and New Wave, displaying the lyrical cynicism of artists like Elvis Costello, Warren Zevon, Lou Reed, Paul Westerberg and Bob Dylan.
Lil Beck's next record, a concept album about cyber-groupies and micro-celebrities, will be available soon.
Lil Beck's "Dyin' Ain't Loofy" and "From Shit to Champagne" are also available on CDBaby:

What does one send to the Lighthouse indeed! At any other time Lily could have suggested reasonably tea, tobacco, newspapers. But this morning everything seemed so extraordinarily queer that a question like Nancy’s—What does one send to the Lighthouse?—opened doors in one’s mind that went banging and swinging to and fro and made one keep asking, in a stupefied gape, What does one send? What does one do? Why is one sitting here, after all? (Woolf)
