Hailed by guitar legend Rodney Jones (Blue Note Producer, Julliard Professor) as a "Young Master" Greg Wachala is a respected guitarist, composer, producer and educator who plays regularly in the upstate New York area. Wachala is on the faculty as Professor of Guitar at the prestigious Hobart and William and Smith Colleges. He is also endorsed by Godin Guitars. Having gained a reputation as a passionate and innovative musician, Wachala has created an individual style on the guitar that crosses over many musical genres while staying true to the traditional styling of jazz.
He has recorded with multi-Platinum artist Jay Proctor and performed with Craig Schulman, Steve Greene, Rick Balestra, Rodney Jones, Joe Chiappone, Fred Stone, Dave Arenius, Maggie Mullen, The SUNY Oswego Guitar Ensemble, and numerous ensembles within the rock, pop, jazz, and heavy-metal genres. He currently performs with some of Rochester's finest musicians in a number of settings.
Wachala has studied with jazz guitar masters Rick Balestra, Steve Greene, and Bob Sneider. He has also taken master classes with Rodney Jones, John Stowell, and Gene Bertoncini. While studying with Balestra at the State University of New York at Oswego, Wachala was awarded the Carlos Monobianco scholarship for being the school’s most outstanding guitarist. He has also been awarded scholarships and grants for his academic contributions to the field of music.
