Formed in 2003 by lifelong friends Jonathan Meenk and Dennis Dodd, Grei is the inevitable result of two musical journeys coming together with a connection that belies their young years.
More like brothers than band mates, Jonathan and Dennis grew up together in two southern California families that were very close. They each picked up their respective instruments (Jon-guitar ,Dennis-drums) at the same time and began to help each other down a long and unpredictable road. As their musical prowess developed, both Jonathan and Dennis began playing with various local bands, but always continued playing together and this, combined with their lifelong connection, built a synergy that hasn't been seen since the likes of cream and the police.
Now, applying the lessons learned from their many musicals endeavors, Jonathan and Dennis have established their musical home in what is now known as Grei. From all the years they have spent playing together Jonathan and Dennis have developed an uncanny ability to read each other, giving their playing a spontaneous freedom and flexibility rarely seen in young musicians and giving Grei an energetic and inspired vibe.
With so many and varied influences between them(Dave Matthews, Eric Clapton, Sting, to name a few) Grei has managed to mold a fresh, unique sound, with Jonathan's laid-back, creative guitar and vocals playing a perfect counterpoint to Dennis' outspoken, yet tasteful drumming. However, it is the mélange of these two shades that creates the vibrant colors of Grei.
