NEWS - Spring 2009, NYC:
Greta just returned from touring Europe (including Berlin, Amsterdam & London) and Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Lismore and more) in February & March, performing duo with Adam D Gold (drums/producer). They previewed songs from the forthcoming album, "The Universal Thump". They are now back in The Bunker (Adam's studio in Brooklyn), working on the album. Video footage from the tour coming soon!
Greta was recently listed as one of the "Top 20 Orchestral Pop Artists in NYC" by The Deli Magazine - http://www.thedelimagazine.com
Greta’s song "Blow Up the Pokies" (co-written with Tim Freedman and recorded by The Whitlams) was recently voted by the general public and prominent Australian musicians as one of the Top 20 Australian songs in the past 20 years, by The Australian.
" She has a spacious voice and a welcome weakness for lushly orchestrated seventies-era singer-songwriter pop."
- The New Yorker
"(A)n intriguing and ultra-talented musician on the rise, possing a "sweetly lyrical voice, an arrestingly quirky sensibility, and a chamber-pop band that fits no pigeonholes. Some hear Rufus Wainwright, other Aimee Mann. All I hear is Greta Gertler - and I like what I hear."
- Terry Teachout, Artsjournal, Wall Street Journal
Greta is award-winning Australian singer-songwriter and pianist currently living in Brooklyn, New York. Her love of music drew her from Sydney to explore the scene in New York in 1999, where she has immersed herself in musical endeavours (and the subway) ever since.
NPR recently chose her song 'Veselka' (from her most recent album, "Edible Restaurant") as its 'Song of the Day' and WNYC featured Greta as "a rising name in New York's downtown singer-songwriter scene."
Greta has opened for Martha Wainwright, Joan As Policewoman, Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze), Jolie Holland, Keren Ann and Madeleine Peyroux and co-wrote two hit songs ("Blow Up the Pokies" and "Charlie 3") recorded by The Whitlams (Warner Music Australia). In 2007, she received an Australia Council for the Arts grant, to tour in support of the release of her album "Edible Restaurant".
Her debut solo release "The Baby That Brought Bad Weather" (2003) is a lush, orchestral pop album featuring over 30 of New York's finest musicians. It received glowing praise from American press and radio, described as "one of those hoped-for revelations that emerged from the never ending pile of new releases" by Vin Scelsa (WFUV) and "a sonic revelation and lyrical treat" by John Rhodes (Headliner Magazine, Radio City Music Hall).
In 2007, she released her follow-up album, EDIBLE RESTAURANT - a tasty pop exploration into the meaning of food (and more), recorded with her New York-based rock band, THE EXTROVERTS (featuring tuba/mobile percussion rhythm section, Matt Moran and Ron Caswell from Slavic Soul Party!), and mixed by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Joan as Policewoman, The Ramones).
I'm happy to announce that my new album "Songs From The Films Of David Lynch" is out now.
"Truly unsettling and perplexingly brilliant... testament to both the quality of Lynch’s soundtracks and Truax’s talents" - The Skinny
"Truax is paying homage to a kindred spirit with this album. It's the best kind of tribute – affectionate and respectful, but with its own quirks and imaginative leaps and its own distinct identity." -The Scotsman
YES! I do too, but I can't breathe, I can't sleep and my head is throbbing....I went to the Pharmacy last night and she hooked me up, so I hope with these meds I can get to feeling better. I am not coming in this afternoon to work. We might actually do that. Send a text my way and remind me, if you don't mind. I'd love to do that! We are SOOO loving our vacation time and love being around people too. the extra money we made from taking those paid surveys online helped out so much!! you should really do them too; i mean, hey, the extra money comes in handy, right? i guess you'll have to type the link into internet explorer or whatever, but here it is:
