Gretchen Rossi has always expressed herself through her writing. Even as a little girl she could remember putting all her thoughts and emotions into a daily diary. She soon realized she had a desire to put those feelings and words into make believe songs she created in her head. Before Gretchen knew it, she had a whole diary of songs she had written since she was a little girl.
Gretchen finally shared her “book of songs” with Jeff during their relationship. Jeff encouraged her to try and sell the music. Always a little too timid and not really knowledgeable about the music business, Gretchen was hesitant. To afraid to share her love of music and songwriting with anyone, she chose to keep her passion private. Gretchen’s desire to be involved in the music industry in some way came to fruition last year when she decided to acquire a large music publishing catalog.
When speaking with press at the AMA’s last month, Gretchen told them she was getting involved in the music industry. Through this publishing catalog acquisition, Gretchen has made many contacts with people working within the music industry. She began to talk to them about how to get her lyrics turned into songs.
One Individual in particular, renowned music Producer Bryan Todd, who is best known for producing big tween hits such as Hanna Montana’s Mitchel Musso, Jordan Pruitt and Ashley Tisdale showed interest. Most recently, Todd has produced Jordin Sparks, Josh Kelley, V Factory and he is slated to work with Miley Cyrus later this month.
Bryan took Gretchen in and encouraged her to share some of her music with him. Bryan noticed a series of lyrics that seemed to just jump off the pages of Gretchen’s song book. They both decided to collaborate on it. It was a very special song Gretchen had written in honor and memory of her late fiancé Jeff who died of Leukemia in September of 2008.
Gretchen found the tragic loss of her fiancé to be one of the most unbearable experiences of her life. Not able to get out of bed for weeks, she took to her diary and began to write; never thinking those emotions and feelings would ever be heard.
Bryan and Gretchen began with the intention of putting together a demo, so they could present it to a large country recording artist or group. Gretchen and Bryan, along with another writer by the name of Michelle Featherstone began to put their heads together to create “Nothing without You.”
Gretchen never intended to provide the vocals to the song but she began to sing out loud while writing in order to capture the feeling behind the words. Bryan quickly took notice and began to realize that this song would have so much more meaning being sung by the artist whose story and emotions were behind it.
At the moment, Gretchen is an immerging Song Writer with a brilliant first song. She is working on her singing skills just so she can present her ideas; she has no intentions at this time of pretending to be professional singer. Country music is something Jeff and Gretchen loved so much. Her dream is to have her songs recorded by some of their favorite country artist like Carrie Underwood , Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts or the ever impressive Blake Shelton.
Gretchen thoroughly enjoyed the process of getting a chance to express her self and saw the opportunity to remember Jeff and make a difference from her pain. Gretchen has decided that she will be donating proceeds from the release of this song to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Jeff Beitzel Foundation she has created. She can only hope that from the release of this song and putting her very private thoughts out into the public, she might be able to save another life from the devastating loss of cancer.
