is an Irish traditional trio from Providence, RI, made up of Donnag Bigos, Jay Gilbert & Brad Maloney. The band takes their name from a jig of the same name. Jay Gilbert & Brad Maloney have been playing music together for over 15 years, they recently met Donnag Bigos who fills out the sound with the bodhran. The Grey Gooses sound focuses on the music of the great fiddlers who emigrated from around Co. Sligo to New York City in the early 1900's mixed with original compositions by Jay & Brad and other traditional favorites. It's the mix of the common & obscure, traditional & modern settings which keep the audiences entertained.
Donnag Bigos
has bounced around the country a fair bit, but her roots are in Southern New England. She has a passion for music, especially roots music, be it bluegrass, scottish pipe-band music or the jigs & reels of Ireland. She has been playing the bodhran (Irish frame drum) with a lively style & contributes an exciting rhythm for the Grey Goose.
Jay Gilbert
was born in and raised in Madison, NJ. He picked up an electric bass as a graduation present, he soon also tried his hand at the guitar. Jay has been playing Irish traditional music as a backer for the better part of 11 years now, tenor banjo for about 7 or 8 years. In addition to playing tunes from the tradition Jay composes many tunes in the Irish Traditional idiom.Jay simply enjoys the challenge of creating a tune within traditional constraints - not that he's anywhere done learning trad tunes, mind you!
Brad Maloney
Was also born & raised in New Jersey and has been playing music in some form since he can remember. Brad's interest in music shot into high gear in his early teens when he picked up the guitar, then again a few years later when he was exposed to the fiddlers playing Irish tunes in & around New York City. Brad tried his hand at the fiddle & was lucky enough to have received pointers from fiddlers such as Ronnie Gebert & Tony DeMarco, among others. Brad also plays the flute which he has played for 6 years or so as well as the tin-whistle.
