  • Review - Greyhound – Tactical Evolution (DCD) by Medienkonverter 18.01.2010

  • Review - Greyhound – Tactical Evolution (DCD) by Gothtronic

The fourth Greyhound album is a double cd with no less than 26 tracks which thematically deal with the current state of affairs in the world. These themes are addressed in sheer loud industrial noise, with aggressive rhythm ‘n noise rhythms and ominous atmospheres. Loud beats and heavily distorted sounds form the décor for this. It seems that on this new album Steffen Lehman consciously has done his best to make the sound of Greyhound less layered and make it sound a bit more accessible with that. Tracks like ‘Demon’, ‘Spark’ and ‘Herzfresser’ however leave no room for misunderstanding that Greyhound is still among the heaviest and less compromising  industrial artists. Only suitable for the real noise die-hards.

Greyhound – Tactical Evolution (DCD Hands)
After the astonishing debut-album of Synthec (side project of Greyhound) Steffen Lehmann strikes back with a new opus of Greyhound. This is the 4th full length released on Hands where Greyhound definitely belongs next to the ‘hardest’ projects from the label. “Tactical Evolution” remains merciless in sound, but the main evolution in sound probably appears in a more controlled noise outburst. The merge of heavy rhythmic and noise-industrial assaults becomes a bit more accessible now. The 1st disc is full of terror, but the feeling is less improvised than in the past. The tracks are more compact and even move on the edge of terror-techno-industrial. The last cut entitled “Körperersatzstücke” is a very good illustration how extremes can come together. Elements of noise and trance structures are joining together for a remarkable climax of this 1st disc. The 2nd disc brings a few surprises. First of all the sound of Greyhound here become more open-minded and accessible for a wider audience. Steffen Lehman here exposes his project to new influences. A few more electronic sounds are coming to the surface (cf. “Voodoo Child”) while he also walks on quieter industrial paths with distorted sounds reminding me of Dive (cf. “Incubation”). The trance input runs through the “My Mercy”-cut, which is highly recommended. But Greyhound also gets back into its heavier side launching power bombs like “Demons”, “Spark” (built up in a quite progressive way) and “Herzfresser”. The 2nd disc is definitely more diversified in sound making the record quite fascinating. Being not a freak of heavy noise outbursts, this album is without a shadow of a doubt the one I prefer from Greyhound!
