With the release of their debut album Heartwash Hotel to a series of sold out performances in the spring of 2004, Grey Star Morning has been establishing itself as one of the best new bands to come out of the Boston area in a long time. Recorded in the basement of a local bakery, Heartwash Hotel breathes a cinematic sound of piano, live strings, and a turntable punctuated by a compelling vocal performance and intelligent lyrics.
It was a string of serendipitous events that brought this trio together just a few months before. Robert had been performing as a solo artist when he met Matt, who was playing for another band on the same bill. Later, when the two joined forces to record Heartwash Hotel they met Alex after posting an ad in a local music store. A familiar story to be sure, but consider that Matt and Alex had been living in the same neighborhood for over a year. Moreover, the three had unknowingly attended the same series of concerts that year and stood within feet of each other at each show.
These and numerous other twists of fate have lent themselves to a unique sound and dramatic live performance. In a live setting Grey Star Morning is a breathless powerhouse of drums, bass, and guitar. Both emotive and aggressive, this trio delivers a unique blend of rock in the tradition of Hum, Muse, and Incubus.
Grey Star Morning will be touring the East Coast and Midwest in 2005
