‘Lucky 17’ is an upbeat dancefloor tinged liquid number. Starting with just the raw drums sprinkled with a hypnotic effected piano riff looping over the beats - more and more percussion gets thrown into the mix until a female vocal of ‘what I need’ is the cue for a for the bass to slide in. A mystical aura surrounds the tune, and as the warm rounded bassline takes flights you’re off into fantasy land. With this track KG manages to perfectly balance between his sound with enough soul for the liquid heads and enough kick for the dancefloor massive.
‘Capital Connection’ is the debut release from new talent Infectious, hailing from Oxford, England, and if this track is anything to go by he is definitely one to watch for the future. Showing maturity beyond his years with this track, characterised by a deep funky bassline, tight snappy drums and dreamy auras. This is one of those tracks which gets into your head and stays there all day long – definitely infectious!

On ‘Your Shout’ Zen enlists a little support from production trio Killabeatz, takes a vocal hook from Gry, adds in a catchy distorted guitar riff, trademark beats and a huge synth bassline and the results are definitely anthem material. This is one you’ll be hearing all summer long. On ‘Land of the Giants’ Zen gets a down and dirty with marching two step drums, and a bouncing bassline to produce something altogether different. ‘Hovercraft VIP’ is a familiar tale, initially only intended to be an exclusive dubplate for Grid DJ’s, the demand for this remix has been immense. After a barrage of emails and forum posts demanding a release, we finally caved in and give the people what they want! This remix adds a little more bounce into proceedings whilst keeping all the elements which made the original so popular. Completely flipping the script on ‘Dark ‘Em Up’, Zen gives a nod to the classic Phantom Force and comes delivers an absolute bruiser of a tune, definitely not for the faint hearted.

‘Coppers’ begins with a pulsating four to the floor build up overlaid with a menacing US gangster film sample. This gives way to a drop which would smash the door off any rave, anywhere. Grimey. ‘Metal Ringer’ is a slightly more experimental Jump Up beast. The steppy beat combines with a growling bassline which switches up through the track between a low down dirty rumble and high pitched synth wobbler. Music to bang walls to.

‘On The Run’ has all the hallmarks of an Electrosoul classic. A filtered piano slowly rises through the intro getting clearer and crisper with each bar, as the percussion fades away a and dreamy swirls combine with a female vocal snippet the beats are unleashed and your away, cruising down Route 66 with the wind in your hair. We love this tune, and so do a lot of DJ’s with plays across the board from the likes Nookie through to Chrisy Chris on BBC 1Xtra.
‘Whale Dance’ finds Electrosoul System in deep mode. Light hypnotic percussion and dreamy pads set the scene for this space age track which wouldn’t be out of place in a 2001 Space Odyssey remake. As always with ESS this tracks doesn’t sit still, twisting turning and changing without you even noticing, with familiar elements slipping in and out. Think old skool atmospheric Good Looking style with 2009 production. Sublime.

‘Pessimist’ kicks things off with a largely drumless atmospheric intro which swishes and swirls around the speakers before building up to the drop. The track is driven by an off key 2 step beat accompanied by an atmospheric soundscape and some delicately placed piano - one to get lost in. ‘Homesick’ sees Mutated Forms come with another deep, reflective track but this time with a sprinkling of hope. A lush combination of soothing pads and bleeps create an infectious melody all underwritten by a warm constant bass. As the vocal says ‘everything around became suddenly unreal, as if in a dream’.
‘Glory Days’ is a slightly darker take on things. A brooding intro, the audio equivalent to a dark cloud overhead is suddenly broken as a glimpse of day light breaks through... and you’re off. A warm slurping bass slips and slides around a filtered amen workout and ‘never again’ vocal snippets floats in and out. KG steps up on remix duties and takes on a track from Mutated Forms first release on Allsorts ‘Behind The Scenes’. Keeping the basic melody and vibe of the original KG brings something a little different to collection and finishes of the EP with an upbeat party liquid track.

'Gimp Mask was one of those marmite tunes you either loved or hated. However as it still gets plays from the likes of DJ Marky and Friction 6 years on, we think that this off key stepper sounds as innovative as it did back in 2003.

A deceptively calming intro with piano stabs, light rolling drums and atmospheric strings break out into an absolute monster bassline workout. A high pitched call and response bassline driven by tight snappy drums and a rumbling sub mean this track instantly sticks in your head. Unlike a lot of current dancefloor drum and bass this track isn’t about the noise, but about the groove.
