Jez, Beki, Chris & Chainy's band... oh right. Yeah, it is
After a year of changing members Griff Rising finally found the perfect members. Originally called Blizzard Eye, the founding members Iain & Chris (Lead guitars) started, just writing songs together without having any experience. Long time friend Beki Bartlett became the next member filling in on bass.
Constant member change went on for almost a year, none of which being what Griff was expecting. Then out of blind luck Beki found Chainy Rabbit (ex-SFE vocalist), who wanted to try out doing something different. After a week of talking about Griff, Chainy agreed to be the drummer. Three months had past before Griff found a singer. Jez Hall was what Griff had been looking for the whole time.
With a full line up Griff desperately looked for gigs anywhere they could. After months of practicing and getting to know each other Iain started to distance him self from Griff. Chainy & Jez started getting lost in their own world and things looked bad for Griff Rising. After a night out together, Iain and Jez argued about the direction of Griff. Iain disliked the drug use within Griff and didn’t like the new songs Chainy and Jez had been writing together. Jez was trying as hard as he could to take the band to the next level. There was a very huge clash of personality between Iain and Jez which did open everyone’s eyes to what was going on in Griff.
After a few days Iain told Chris he was quitting Griff. Chris didn’t know how to take it and assumed Griff was going to split up. Chris spoke to Chainy to see what would become of Griff if Iain left and they both came to an agreement that they would carry on no matter what. Iain later on told everyone personally he was quitting. This left Griff in shit seeing they used Iain’s practice room at his house. They carried on hoping something good would happen soon.
It was at this point that the name was changed to Griff Rising, who was a tutor at Canterbury College. They then set about trying to replace Iain and Griff were hoping that Death Metal guitarist Brad Long would join the band, however it wasn't to be and so rather than teach a new person all the songs it was decided to go on alone from then on.
A few weeks later Griff had their first gig which went very well. Three other bands also played at the Harp Club, but it was Griff Rising that were the stand out band (according to them!!).
Chris has now left because he had a life to copy with & sort out, the band was becoming too much work and because of this Beki will be leaving the band in March if he feels unconftable without Chris. New members are Dom on guitar (Guitarist from Lips Like Oxygen) and maybe Mark on bass (a friend from Chainy's college)
The band is always having bad luck so all we can say is, "BRING IT ON"
We will take what ever shit life throws at us because at the end of the day it ownly makes us write better music because we have more shit to complain about. Everytime someone quits, something breaks, someone dies and when girlfriends leave, GRIFF will take it and come back stronger than before!
Thanet Rocks Summer Bash on Sunday 20th August. Westgate Pavillion.
It costs £3.50 and it runs from three to ten. This is going to be all original Thanet music from 7 bands, plus DJ sets from other local artists and any money made will go to Thanet Mind. A good charity in anyones books.
The first Thanet Rocks fanzine will be available at the gig which we should be selling for about 50p which will have reviews, etc of original music gigs and albums in Thanet.
As an added bonus there is also going to be a comic book stand. Marvel/DC heaven! They will also be donating money to the charity.
That band practice was TIGHT! First band practice of since the gig on new years eve... it's now Feb the 4th!!!!!!!!! Dom was a well good for learning the songs that quickly I hope you liked him. The 500 is as good as ours!

hey guys!! was great meeting you and playing with you on saturday night!! what a way to start 2006??! :-) so you're definately put on the bill with us on the 21st jan, thats great!! i have to round the guitars up again tonite as we're playing the wheatsheaf in like 5 hrs! :-S no probs, havnt played the video back yet, but i will give you a copy on the 21st..! the others are looking forward to meeting you, and next time we'l have a proper band to band meeting :-)
