An honest, rootsy mix of styles, Grimick are an energetic 4 piece who never stray far from the essential ingredients - great rhythm, a contagious melody, and something to say.
Performing songs from their latest album “Dazzle”, Grimick captivated their audience on New Year’s Eve at the 06/07 Peats Ridge Festival, and delivered an inspiring show to a packed-out Bar Broadway on March 23 for the official launch/party. Since then, Grimick have been performing in and around Sydney, drawing strong audiences to committed live original music venues such as the Hopetoun Hotel.
Grimick formed in 2003, when four mates from popular cover band “Party Down Under” (sphere agency) decided it was time to focus more seriously on their original material. Griff, Mick, Matt & Dr Fear were already performing 2-3 nights a week in the highly competitive club and pub scene, with venues such as The 3 Wise Monkeys, St Patrick’s (Sydney), Paddy Maguire’s (Star City Casino), Sydney’s Hard Rock Café, and Kitty O’Shea’s among their regular haunts. Three years & over three-hundred shows later, the boys felt confident in their ability to entertain large crowds, as they had quickly gained a reputation for antics, energy on stage, and an ability to impress audiences with their vocal quality, range, and harmonies. Performing to 500+ crowds at venues such as the Mean Fiddler (Rouse Hill), the group were attracting a growing following when they decided to call it quits in April 2002 - to the dismay of both their management and agency - “but the pull to write and perform our own songs was just too strong” admits lead vocalist/songwriter Griff.
One year later, Grimick began to circulate their self-titled début album, which was completely recorded, produced and even mastered in their own home studios. Several songs were beginning to attract attention both in Australia and in the US – the boys were even offered a record deal with a L.A. based company “Kling Corp”. “Grimick” received highly positive critical feedback when tracks were entered in the 2004 Musicoz Awards – among thousands of entries, the song “Groov’n Now” reached 23rd spot in the pop category charts, and the track “Let it Shine” went on regular rotations at 2SER & FBI.
Proud of their first album, but not satisfied, Grimick spent most of 2006 exploring a more honest, folk/roots based path. All four members played a crucial role in writing and consolidating the sound for their second album - Dazzle. It’s their most cohesive work to date, less produced, more organic, grown the old fashioned way – and it’s already generated an overwhelmingly positive response from friends and fans, culminating in a packed out launch at Bar Broadway, Sydney. So proud of their latest work, Grimick have made an unusual decision: they’ve made the entire album available for FREE DOWNLOAD at their website www.grimick.com
A Gimmick? “More of an experiment” explains Griff. “We’re so pleased with this album, the way it evolved – to see so many people pack in to see us play, honestly, we just want as many people to hear our work as possible, and keep coming to see our shows.”
With seemingly no upward limit to his vocal range, Griff is capable of both power & tenderness, cheeky at times but always passionate. Combine this with Dr Fear’s ripping riffs and guitar solos, Mick’s arrangements of strings, piano, trumpet and glorious harmonies, and Matt’s earthy, percussive rhythms – and you have a live act not to be missed.

Background:
Mick and Griff’s song writing partnership harks back to their days at Baulkham Hills High School, where the pair first met and became friends through music. From an early age, they poured hours into organising and promoting their own gigs, as well as performing at various school related events - making it into the finals of the 1995 NSW Schools Battle of the Bands Competition and performing at Sydney’s Horden Pavilion, was a sign of things to come.
After high school, Mick and Griff continued to broaden their performing experiences. Griff secured the lead role of Jesus, in Jesus Christ Superstar (T.H.E theatre company) in 1998. Around that time he also wrote and performed several songs for the Gospel Album "Great Is Your Love", which sold thousands of copies in Australia, as well as America, the U.K and Africa. From 2003 - 2005 Griff performed to packed houses in the world famous Jenolan Caves "Grand Arch” Carols Show, and in 2004 the pair performed in the musical “Back to the 80s” (Neil Gooding Productions) at the Evans Theatre, Penrith, and the Parramatta River Side Theatre.
Griff was also emerging as a talented producer and recording engineer. Working out of “The Lab Studio” - Belmore, and his own home studio, Griff began recording and producing music for dozens of local bands, in addition to his role as production coordinator and 2IC of “Youthrock” – a state wide battle of the bands competition. In 2004 Griff became “the Voice of Physie”. The Bjelke Petersen School of Physical Culture (Physie) is a nation wide dance organisation with finals held at the Sydney Opera House. Each year Griff sings and produces the music used as the backing tracks for choreography developed by the organisation.
