Paradise Disintegrates is the extremely promising Grindhead Records debut from Wollongong's New Blood; the latest in a slew of death metal bands harking back to the glory days of extreme music.
Not afraid to put any limitations to their sound, New Blood experiment with all elements of aggression, speed, groove, brutality, melody and dissonance across various extreme metal genres. The most prominent echoes of Paradise Disintegrates are the relentlessness of Cannibal Corpse, the slamming groove of Devourment and the blazing technical blunt trauma attack of Suffocation - though New Blood are sure to keep their eye on modern extreme music developments, incorporating bursts of influence from newer acts like the Aborted, The Faceless and The Red Shore.
New Blood are walking the left hand path path to hone their bloody craft by introducing a flair for musicianship while always consciously keeping themselves firmly tied to brutality and excessive violence as if it were their lifesblood. From the first guttural bellow, brutal blastbeat and frenetic tremolo-picked riff it becomes immediately clear that New Blood are not here to fuck around; they are here to break bones, piece organs and shatter skulls by unleashing the most uncompromisingly brutal aural battering they are physically able. It is that unwavering dedication to constant rehearsal and expansion of their sound and skills - coupled with a consistent stream of globally encompassing hatred and malcontent - that makes New Blood one of the most exciting Australian death metal bands to look out for.
One Step Beyond are not unlike a serial rapist and murderer hiding in the shadows. Equally twisted as they are depraved, they choose to dress up their bewildered victims in bizarre clown costumes and heavily dose them with LSD, forcing them to dance to a soundtrack of slightly off-key circus music for days on end before they finally grow bored and dispose of their catch in an unequivocally brutal manner.
That is the concerning mental image that is forced upon me from listening to One Step Beyond'sLife Imitates Art; a refreshingly experimental and unique take on the death metal genre. Driven by impeccable bass-guitar work, One Step Beyond balance equal parts of brutality, blasting, groove and unabated catchiness while splicing elements of modern and more classic extreme metal and a flair for incorporating a wide range of experimental influences including (but not limited to) circus music, rock n' roll, reggae, ambiance, psychedelia and style-oozing, slap-bass porno-funk that would leave Les Claypool feeling inadequate.
What is perhaps most surprising of all is that this unconventional meeting of genres works perfectly. Inexplicably, One Step Beyond have succeeded in melding a slew of non-metal musical elements into a death metal framework with seamless coherency and musicianship. Nothing in Life Imitates Art sounds out-of-place, forced or awkward - which is a truly remarkable accomplishment. A generic gore/rock band this is not.
Major identifiable influences include the fun-loving murder metal of Macabre, the depraved surgical groove of Carcass, the rotting death metal of Obituary, the slap bass-driven Primus and the catchy rock and grind of Blood Duster, alongside a penchant for the experimental that brings to mind Mr. Bungle and the relentless slap-bass death metal of Mucopus. There is something in One Step Beyond for all fans of metal; so waste no time in experiencing the twisted acid-soaked metal vision of Life Imitates Art. Ahead of it's time in every sense.
Grindhead Records is proud to announce the release of the debut MCD The Age of Disgrace from Australian newcomers Code of Lies.
Hailing from Orange in NSW, Code of Lies play a modern style of groove-laden, hybrid technical death/grind drawing influences from a wide range of extreme metal genres. The Age of Disgrace contains a dynamic mix of guttural lows and raging high vocals backed with thick, intricate guitar work and blasting drums that hit harder than a spinkick to the face.
Code of Lies balance the level of technical ability of bands like Cephalic Carnage and Psyopus with the sheer intense aggression of Nasum and Pig Destroyer influenced grindcore and the complex sense of melody and groove from Between the Buried and Me and The Haunted. With The Age of Disgrace as an extremely impressive debut, Code of Lies have established them as a new talent to watch out for in the Australian extreme scene.
The utterly intense barrage of merciless grindcore that is Spain's Disturbance Project have teamed up with the raw and immensely abrasive South American Plague Rages to create a monumental cranium exploding grind masterpiece!
Raw, intense grindcore for fan's of old Napalm Death, Rot, Warsore and Rotten Sound.
Grindhead Records is gurgeling bloody chunks of excitement to be finally resurrecting the undead, flesh-devouring, maggot-infested ghoul that is Gruesome Stuff Relish's Last Men In Gore.
This apocalyptic, gore-drenched re-release contains a plethora of savage, gut-munching tracks spanning since this Spanish gore monsters inception in 2000 to the end 2003, containing the never released 7" Last Men Alive, the now classic Brothers In Gore split with Brutality Reigns Supreme and five unreleased innard liquifying gems.
Gruesome Stuff Relish combine old school the 90's death of Entombed and Carnage with the splattered gore sound of Impetigo and Necrony; and is craciously trasmitted through the use of catchy-as-fuck! Filthy distorted guitars, bone-shattering blast beats and thick, punishing brain-stewing bass lines - all while conceptually paying homage to the classic zombie and cannibal horror films of the 60's, 70's and 80's, best displayed on tracks such as "Walk Among the Living", "Green Inferno" and "Teenage Giallo Grind".
Last Men In Goreis absolutely essential in any collection of a self-confessed horror metal freak! Gorehounds rejoice!
Subterranean Fecal Root come heavily armed with 37 face-pounding tracks specifically designed to absolutely repulse and disgust all sectors of this so called 'civilised society', excreting shockwaves of destructive oral and aural obscenity via the insanely harsh yet coherent spazzed out shrieking vocals, reminiscent of Macabre and Gronibard and backed by savagely sharp and abrasive riffs spliced with bowel stomping grooves and drum programming that is likely to induce an instant prolapse!
Delibrately ignorant and proud of it, these pissed off abhorrent rednecks are on a mission to completely derail and eradicate all foolish, miguided and imprudent humans by smearing vile, steaming shitlogs in the faces of Christians, yuppies, conversatives, scenestars, pseudo-grinders, feminists and any other deluded tool that is completely devoid of any rational grounding in reality.
Subterranean Fecal Root secure their conviction througxh such subtle abominations like "Beat the Fuck Out of Jesus", "Hate is a Wonderful Thing" and "Farting a Spinich Loaf on Your Face". If you cant get enough of Anal Cunt, Meatshits and Undinism then this nasty piece of debauchery is a must have!
Pathology has burst violently back into the international extreme music scene with their follow up to their acclaimed 2006 debut Surgically Hacked.
Incisions of Perverse Debauchery steamrolls through nine surgically precise slabs of crushing death/grind featuring David Astor's (Being Killed, ex-Cattle Decapitation, ex-The Locust) seemingly inhuman drum work, Levi Fuselier's (Disgorge) unique guttural vocal style and Tim Tiszczenko (Being Killed) taking on both guitar and bass. The brutal Californian death/grind three-piece have crafted a thick and powerful wall of sonic destruction, as they move from punishing, intense blast beats to monstrous death metal grooves with a three-pointed vocal attack.
Pathology have managed to sow together death metal's blunt brutality and aggression with outstanding musicianship to create their own brand of immeasurably dense, devastating death/grind. The result is a truly overwhelming release deserving of death metal's elite.
Salvation | Extinction will engulf your senses with nineteen tracks of inhumanly dense and intense grindcore. The group fuse the grind stylings of old with a crushing hybrid of modern grind, crust and punk with a smattering of death metal. Taking the best parts of Napalm Death's raw, intense and wholly uncompromising political punk-influenced aural assault, Beyond Terror Beyond Grace have reinvigorated the grindcore blueprint by incorporating elements of modern extreme groups such as Rotten Sound, Discordance Axis and Circle of Dead Children.
The end product is a skull-crushingly intense piece of Australian grindcore that has sealed Beyond Terror Beyond Grace's place amongst the nations top tier of extreme music - joining the likes of The Kill, Captain Cleanoff, Agents of Abhorrence and Fuck... I'm Dead. This is an outstandingly powerful and intelligent release from one of the hardest working bands in the Australian music scene - and an absolute essential for any grindhead.
Prepare your mind for the inevitable blunt force trauma it will suffer at the hands of Long Pig's debut full length Barren! Formed out of the ashes of Hungarian grind band Din-Addict, Long Pig overwhelms listeners with over half an hour of sludgy, downtuned grindcore, aptly communicating a bleak vision of harsh reality that will flatten you out like a ton of bricks.
Long Pig have carved out a totally unique sound, mixing raw Napalm Death-styled old school grindcore with influences from sludge, death and stoner metal, as well taking select dynamics from modern grindcore groups such as Nasum and Rotten Sound. This unique melting pot of influences coupled with raw aggression and a due sense of apocalyptic nihilism results an intense listening experience sure to awaken the sedated minds of the public with all the subtly of a sledgehammer.
A battering, thick and powerful slab of grindcore that will satisfy old and new fans of genre alike.
