BigTime Party Band’s SOUTHPAW ROCKER	Jan 21 2009 1:36 AM In regards to the new compilation CD, "Love Songs"... Many artists and / or record companies release compilations just for the sake of releasing compilations and do not seem to spend the time in creating a track list that makes sense. The Marshall Tucker Band does not seem to be guilty of this. This newest compilation is falling right in line with the last two, "Anthology" and "Where A Country Boy Belongs". The track list covers the best love songs from the first album all the way to the most recent. This new compilation adds to the legacy of a band that has proven time and time again that they can create any kind of legitimate music that exists out there today, regardless of style or genre. The track list seems to be well thought out and executed with a great deal of nothing short of... LOVE. Kudos to The Marshall Tucker Band. And I personally can't wait for another CD of new material from this timeless group. God Bless Everyone, The Southpaw Rocker

BigTime Party Band’s SOUTHPAW ROCKER	Jan 29 2009 4:54 AM Today I was heartbroken to learn that Billy Powell, Lynyrd Skynyrd's longtime pianist has passed away at the age of 56. He apparently suffered a heart attack. Billy joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in the the early 1970's when the group's leader and vocalist, the late, great Ronnie Van Zant heard his piano version of "Free Bird". That song would go on to become arguably the most requested song in history. Even though Lynyrd Skynyrd has been widely considered a guitar band, Billy's piano work hepled to round out their signature sound. Can you imagine "Free Bird" without that beautiful intro... not to mention Billy's solo during the live rendition. Can you hear "Sweet Home Alabama" without that jubilant outro (which he re-recorded for Kid Rock's 2008 smash hit "All Summer Long"). His style has defined what any Southern Rock pianist should sound like. Billy remained with the band until their tragic plane crash in 1977 that claimed the lives of Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister), road manager Dean Kilpatrick and pilots Walter McCreary and William Gray. After a 10 year hiatus,and performing with various other groups, including the Rossington Collins Band with surviving Skynyrd members, Billy returned to a reformed Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1987 with Van Zant's younger brother, Johnny, taking lead vocals. The band has continued to thrive on the concert trail and has developed an extremely devoted fan base. They have released six studio albums and two live albums since 1991. Billy's piano flourishes on th emore recent material just as did on the classic 1970's output. The band has continued to persevere through several tragedies since the crash. Original guiatrist Allen Collins was paralyzed in a 1986 car accident and passed in 1990 from complications from pneumonia. Original Bassist Leon Wilkeson died of kidney failure after years of pain due to the 1977
