Groove Cartel is a collaboration of like minded musicians from the Cambridgeshire area, playing a mixture of original Funk and hand-picked gems from the oldskool archives. With a positive, danceable vibe throughout, their sets travel from laid back, groove-based riffs to frenetic rock-outs dripping with organ/guitar duelling and vocal-led crowd participation.
Groove Cartel is currently made up of the following:
Martin Ferguson : Vocals. A very experienced soul and funk vocalist, Martin performs with Zanzara and Soul Patrol as well as Groove Cartel. After a long search we are stoked to have him on board.
Hugo : Hammond & Rhodes. Hugo was classically trained and got a Music degree, whereupon he discovered Soul and Funk, and with them the sublime, warm sounds of the Hammond Organ and Rhodes Piano. His sound is decidedly retro, with no synthesizers required or desired.
Marcus Rayner : Guitar. Founder member and Cartel boss man. Marcus put together GC's previous incarnation 'Soulflower' in early 2005. Influenced by many modern guitarists, he is the flip-side to Hugo's retro sound.
Paul Hughes : Percussion. A very experienced percussionist with a passion for jazz-funk. Paul has previously worked with both Martin and Lewis. Currently Pauls percussion rack takes up more room than Daves drum kit!
Dave Sole : Drums. Dave plays in several local bands and is also a drum tutor and owner of Taramik Drums in Peterborough.
Mark Wilkinson : Sax. Mark can also be found in the Mark Wilkinson Trio if Jazz is your bag, but here he keeps it strictly funky. Mark is also responsible for all GC's artwork.
Jamie Lynch : Bass. Young Jam would like you to think that he 'puts the Groove in Cartel' and he's not wrong. Jam's got musical maturity beyond his years and style for miles.
May The Funk Be With You.
