Clarification: We are not the well loved "Groove Spoon" out of Lansing. I did meet a member of the original band who told me there was yet another Groove Spoon.
Groove Spoon began after Justin Wedes stepped into Jack Stratton's dorm room and said, "Take this gig. I'm done with this band-leading stuff" (Wedes would later lead the band because Stratton lacked leadership skills). The band adopted the name "A New Universal Sound" and Stratton hunted through Ann Arbor for the finest musicians.
They played their first show with a hulking 10-piece band with Pat Frank on drums. Since then, the band lost Frank to the real world and was forced to change their name because they were a complete joke. They still are, but they have a classy MySpace.
Wedes decided on the name "Groove Spoon" which..ya know...kinda sucks, but it grows on you and lends itself well to puns. The band dabbles in many genres (Klezmer, Samba, Salsa, Hip-Hop, TLC) making them one of the most dynamic and entertaining groups around.
Groove Spoon plays monthly at the Heidelberg along with other random gigs and house parties. Come.
"Groove Spoon..You are the best band in the world."
