GRUPO ALDACO
Grupo Aldaco from Lansing, MI originated in the early 1960's by founder Juve Aldaco.
In the early years the group was known as Los Rayos Del Norte, a group which consisted of the traditional 3 line button Accordion, Bajo Sexto (12 string guitar), Bass and Drums producing a style of music known as "Conjunto".
As the mid/ late 70's came, Juves 3 sons, Ernesto, Juve Jr, and Daniel would eventually join the group and change the style of music to "Tejano", a blend of Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Rhythm/ Blues and pop along with the traditional Mexican style .
During the 1960's-1980's several recordings were produced by the group now known as "Aldaco Band". Aldaco Band was popular all over the midwest, playing every weekend at the traditional Weddings, Quinceaneras, Anniversaries, and fund-raisers.
In the late 1980's-early 1990's, Aldaco Band added a female singer, Tina Lewis to the group, and were able to open many other doors as far as choice of music. Not only did she perform R&B, pop, and easy listening music, but was so infatuated by the Tejano style of music, that she learned how to understand, speak and sing in Spanish. She was loved by all the midwest.
In 1990 Aldaco Band, now known as "Grupo Variedad" were in the studio recording their next album when Juve Sr. went to San Antonio, TX and met with Manny Guerra, a famous producer who started the careers of such artists as: Selena y los Dinos, Shelly Lares, Ram Herrera, The Latin Breed, and Grupo Mazz just to name a few, to have him listen to Grupo Variedad’s new recordings.
Manny Guerra liked what he heard. He gave Grupo Variedad 3 songs written by a Texas songwriter and wanted to see what they could come up with as far as an arrangement for the songs.
2 weeks later the songs were in the hands of Manny Guerra. After hearing them, Grupo Variedad was signed to CBS/SONY Records. But a group with a similar name called "New Variety Band" from Texas would be confusing to people. So Manny Guerra suggested to Juve to change the bands name to "Grupo Aldaco".
The Group would now be known as "Grupo Aldaco".
After the release of the new album Grupo Aldaco appeared on the worldwide television show: "The Johnny Canales Show" in spring of 1991. The song "Tres Amores" went to 1 on many Texas radio charts after that appearance. Grupo Aldaco won numerous awards at the Midwest Tejano Music Awards in Toledo, OH and at the Tri-State Music Awards in Detroit, MI.
In 1994 Grupo Aldaco signed with "Freddie Records" out of Corpus Christi, TX. The album produced 2 hit singles: "Borracho y Loco" and "Dos Corazones".
That same year 13 year old Jenny Albarez from Lansing, MI joined the group as the new Female singer.
Grupo Aldaco recorded 3 more albums between 1997 and 2004 on the independent "ALDACODA" label.
In 2006, with the internet all over the world, Grupo Aldaco was able to be heard in every country. Grupo Aldaco was approached by many Record labels on "myspace". In 2006, Grupo Aldaco eventually signed with "Ritmo Records"- President Daniel Mendoza, who is based out of Raymondville, TX.
On March 9-10-11, 2007 Grupo Aldaco made history as being the first Lansing, MI based Tejano act to perform at the "Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair" 2007 In San Antonio, TX.
With their CD entitled: "Tejano with Class" on Ritmo Records to be released in April 2007, Grupo Aldaco’s first Single: "Dulces de Chocolate" is all over Texas radio airways.
On the week of April 1, 2007 "Dulces de Chocolate" has reached the 5 spot on the Tejano charts.
Grupo Aldaco plans on being in Texas in late summer 2007 performing at many events.
But the midwest will always be Grupo Aldaco home. They hope to make the midwest proud!
