About me:
Director,Founder and Choreographer Julio C. Flores
was born in Mexicali, Baja Califonia Norte. His education as a dance instructor began in the year of 1985, after graduating from Roosevelt High School. Julio C. Flores grew up in the East Los Angeles area.
From 1985 to 1989, he studied under the direction of Juan Hernandez from Ballet Folklórico Cuitlahuac in Tijuana Baja California Norte. After completing his four years of studies, he founded his dance group with the name of Ballet Folklórico Mixteco.
Mr. Flores, has been invited to teach for different dance groups around the USA and Mexico. Bailadores de Bronce in Seattle, Washington, Grupo Folklórico Mexicapan in San Antonio, Texas, Ballet Folklórico de Puebla, Puebla, Mexico, are some of the dance groups that have been working with Maestro Julio and his dance group.
From 1997 to 1999, he studied under the direction of Maestro Eleazar Rodarte from Grupo Folklórico Mexcaltitan. He has worked as a dance instructor at Jefferson High School Ballet Folklórico, Gardena High School Folklorico, San Pedro Street School Folklórico, Rowan Avenue School Folklórico, Our Lady of Lourdes Folklórico, Our Lady of Talpa folklórico Dance Group, Guadalupe de Hammel Ballet Folklórico.
Founded in 1989, Ballet Folklorico Mixteco has been active not only within the community of ELA, but also in surrounding communities. It has performed at La Feria del Niño(a very important event in our community). Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Pomona Fair, Olvera Street, Universal Studios, Magic Mountain, Sea World. These represent just a few of the venues at which we have performed. We have traveled to more distant cities within California as well, such as Bakersfield, Fresno, Hayward, Sacramento, Salinas, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose. Outside of California, we have appeared in Las Vegas, Nevada, San Antonio, Texas, Seattle,Washington, Tijuana & Mexicali, Mexico, and Guadalajara, Mexico.
The group has won First and Second Places in the Ballet Folklorico de México de Amalia Hernandez Competition in 1999 & 2000.
At the USA Folklorico Competition, our group took First Place in the Elementary School, Middle School, High School and Professional Categories.
In 1990, we were honored by the Los Angeles County First district Supervisor, Gloria Molina, and by Richard Alatorre, California State Assemblyman for Los Angeles.
