Los Hermanos de Arce and Jr. Vargas meet in 1985, while both parties were "Helping " groups out A conversation arouse at the Fiesta in Topeka, Ks about the trio of brothers along with the help of their dad starting a new band. The Arce family are a group of established musicians in their own right. They recorded an album in the late 70's, Anthony and The Royals. Jr Being from Kansas City and just moved his family to Topeka, had a resume of successful groups. So they combined to their talents to create Jr. Vargas y Varidad. They were successful for a few years, But they then grew to a 9 man group, Jr. Vargas and Cenizas. For 2 years of the 90's Cenizas took Kansas by storm. But the Storm was here and gone before you knew it. The band broke up, But Anthony and Rene, as Well as Jr took their act on the road and joined Steve Reyes and Manana band. They spent a good Decade together in KC. But like most groups, They left for diffrent reasons......."The Birth'.......... Jr was approached in May 2004 by his son Papo. Papo had expressed an interest in joining his Dad for 1 more go around, and the Arce brothers too. They needed a Bass Player, Papo having some experience on percussion and singin with Cenizas, and Manana band, decided he wanted to play bass. Papo learned it in 1 year, Jr was ready to sing and Play Guitar. With Anthony on Accordion, And Rene on drums, They even reached out to their brother in Newton,Ks. Adrian was then recruited to be the sound engineer. But 1 more cog was left. This time They would be joined by Cruz Gallegos. He is the Oldest of Jr's 11 grandchildren. Now 14, Cruz is the final peice of the puzzle. They are now complete. Jr Vargas y Grupo PICANTE.. This is a group whose influences run deep through Musica Tejana. You Will hear your Favorite tunes, arranged by the "Toros de Topeka". With Jr's soothing, Versatile voice. Anthonys Riffs on the Squezee Box are Melodic, yet his unique stlye does come out. Rene's Rythem is consistant, but can be deadly, and fills the sounds of the 5 some. Papo is a Player whose potential is unlimited, Influenced by Vida, Hip-Hop, and Old school Tejano, and a mentor in his dad JR. He will take over in the future when the brothers and his dad retire. Cruz will also be a part of the take over. He is 14, and has no fear of any crowd, can charm his way into their hearts with a soft, and raspy set of songs. His voice continues to grow and mature, and his dancing energy will last all night. Together PICANTE delivers an entertaining show with dancing, your favorite Rancheras, as well as the most diverse set of Cumbia's you will ever hear. Jr's Ballads are 2nd to none as well. Come see PICANTE real soon. You wont be disappointed you went! For Bookings call 785-230-0595 or 785-234-4550. Or Leave us a message in the box on the left.
