About me: WHAT IS A.B.A.T.E OF Golden Triangle Chapter? (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to “… preserving the rights, improving the image, and promoting the safe operating practices of Texas Motorcyclists.”
We open our doors and extend a hand of friendship to anyone who is concerned with motorcycle and personal rights. We welcome riders and regardless of the manufacture you chose. Membership is open to everyone 18 and older. Ownership of a motorcycle is not required.
ABATE STATEMENT OF POSITION AND ACTIVITY TO PROMOTE THAT POSITION ABATE is a freedom of choice organization, dedicated to the premise that the individual is best suited to decide the type of motorcycle to ride, the type of safety gear to wear, and their own personal life-style.
The primary objective of ABATE is to monitor legislative activity in regard to laws affecting motorcyclists, especially those designed to restrict our freedom of choice, and to encourage all members to become politically involved in order to effect positive legislation and deter that of a negative nature.
Through public forums, writing letters and meeting elected representatives, ABATE members have the opportunity to present their side of the issues and educate governmental leaders about the needs of Texas motorcyclists.
Legislative directors on state and regional levels help to coordinate these efforts; and, when necessary, provide a communication link between the organization and elected officials.
Other goals include:
· Mounting vigorous campaigns for motorcycle rider education and related safety programs.
· Raising political awareness and encouraging members to register and vote.
· Supporting the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA),
The Motorcyclist Riders Foundation (MRF),
as well as other motorcyclist rights organizations around the nation.
· Dissemination of motorcycling related information, staging events for members, raising funds for charitable causes and general promotion of motorcycling!
ACCOMPLISHMENTS ABATE of Golden Triangle, has been instrumental in promoting the interest of Texas motorcyclist in many areas.
ABATE worked to get legislation passed to create the Texas Motorcyclist Enrichment Program. The Enrichment Program continues to train thousands of new motorcyclist each year and offers a course for the experienced rider.
ABATE, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Public Safety, co-sponsor the Motorcyclist Awareness Rally in our state capital to raise public awareness of the fact that, with the coming of Spring, motorcycles are back on the road. Through regional programs, ABATE members have staged and participated in events that have raised tens of thousands of dollars, or collected much needed items such as clothing, toys, etc., for charitable causes.
Perhaps out greatest achievement is the creation of an organization that enables your to become educated, both politically and in safe riding practices; an organization that offers you activities and brotherhood with fellow motorcyclists; an organization that will stand up and fight for all motorcyclists; and, works to ensure that we and our children will be able to enjoy the freedoms that we hold so dear.
MEMBERSHIP ABATE of Golden Triangle Chapter, is open to all persons 18 years or older having an interest in preserving personal freedoms and sharing our goals. Owning a motorcycle is not necessary.
Dues assessed yearly: Single - $15.00; Couple - $25.00 Lifetime - $150
MONTHLY NEWSLETTER ABATE of Golden Triangle Chapter, members receive a monthly newsletter covering important issues and events at local, regional, national, and international levels.
ABATE began in the early 1970's when a mandatory helmet law was first introduced in the state of California. Easyrider Magazine and a few supportive groups formed an organization which they called ABATE to fight that law. Since that time, ABATE groups have organized in over 36 states.
ABATE also began in Texas in the 1970's and has reorganized three times since then, the latest reorganization coming in 1990.
(The) Texas ABATE Confederation is organized and operated exclusively for education and charitable purposes under section 501C(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and in the State of Texas as a nonprofit corporation." (Texas ABATE Confederation Guidebook, Fourth edition, July 2003, p1.)
