| About G & T ( Gaye and Trish ) |
We are a singing duo from the North East of Scotland. Mostly we perform at Maritime and Shanty Festivals in the UK and Europe, singing about the sea and the fishing ( but not shanties-we leave that to the many excellent male singers on the scene). Otherwise we sing folk songs, mainly Scottish, and songs that suit our harmonies. We first met when two of our children were at the local toddlers group at Cluny, near Sauchen in Aberdeenshire and discovered we both loved to sing, especially in harmony. And it's our harmony singing that has taken us to the many Festivals and venues we get to sing in. We have sung in some fantastic places, local Scottish castles as well as schooners in Brittany, museums in Wales and the Netherlands, on stages and on harbour walls and met many wonderful people. There are ladies in Fishwife choirs in Holland singing scottish fishing songs now, having learned them from us. There are songs in our repertoire that we have collected on our travels as well. The maritime side of our musical adventures started at the Portsoy Boat Festival in 1999 where we met Nanne Kalma and Ankie Vandermeer from Friesland. This year we will be at Portsoy again and we'll be celebrating our 6th year performing at the Hull International Festival of the Sea. We have also produced three Cds:-First Verse which is a collection of mainly Scottish songs; Fish and Ships ( Lines Upon the Water) and Fish and Ships Too ( I Stand On The Quay) both of which are collections of songs of the sea and the fishing.
