Music: From Ramones to Run DMC, Little Richard to Ricardo Vilalobos, Slim Harpo to Slick Ric, Aretha Franklin to Arrested Development... Rock'n'Roll to Soul, Hillbilly to Hip Hop - and right on through to minimal techno squidge of the deep and hypnotic groovy variety... I love and play all sorts as long as it's infectious and makes you wanna smile or wave your hands in the air or move your feet or all of the above...

People: First and foremost, my musically active friends: Dave(Spoon Eating Robot), Oly Ralfe (Ralfe Band), Crispy, Matt Baker Jones (Snigger/DJ Twat), Julian Nelson, Chris "Dubvendor" Jones, Jimmy Hilson, Roo Walton, Matt Murphy and Mark Bestone all of whom are inspirational in their approach not just to music but to life itself. And, for the same reasons, my Its Bigger Than family Deven Miles, Leo the Amateur, Cutmaster Max, James Joyce and Ice Kev Nice.

DJs: Andrew Weatherall, DJ Yoda, Mark Rae, DJ Vadim, DJ Woody, Rev. Milo Speedwagon, Fred Deakin, Soulwax (Too Many DJs), Glimmer Twins, Norman Jay, Tom Middleton, Twitch, Ricardo Vilalobos, Spoon Eating Robot, Deven Miles, Leo the Amateur, Rob Da Bank, Roo Walton, Grandmaster Nolan, they've all left their mark.

   About G the P
Real name: Gav. I write stuff, read stuff, make noise with stuff. I like to make things like books, badges, er, books about badges, compilations, mixes, pancakes and stuff. I write for Creative Review magazine and have recently contributed to Plastique and Wonderland. I love all things to do with visual communications – graphic design, illustration, photography, advertising, film, animation, music videos, record sleeves, posters...

I also love collecting things. Mainly posters, nice furniture and records. I can be found spinning old vinyl and pressing play on CD players at this regular London shindig:

Gerry's Joint – every 3rd Saturday of the month
@ The Boogaloo, 312 Archway Road, N6

Gerry's was set up in January 2005 as an outlet for all the cool old music we like but never really got to play. Chuck Berry, Sam & Dave, The Kinks, Johnny Kidd & The Pirates... Since starting this regular Rock'n'Roll shindig, we've made a lot of new friends, made a lot of people remember that dancing and whooping is a lot of fun – and we've also learned a lot about what records really make a party jump. The more raucous, the more infectious – the better! Come along and shake a tail feather!

Guerrilla Advertising: Unconventional Brand Communication
The advertising industry is in a state of flux. In an age where we can choose what media we consume, the traditional channels of TV, press and poster are no longer always the most appropriate for a brand to reach its target audience. As a result, global brands are opting to implement ever more inventive and original schemes to get their products talked about. Microsoft covered Manhattan in butterfly stickers, Volkswagen made a Polo out of ice and parked it on a London street, and Adidas suspended two footballers high above the streets of Tokyo for a death-defying kickabout. This book shows the best international examples of the varied and inventive tactics that are being used today by big-name brands, non-profit organizations and individuals to promote themselves, their ideas and their products. More than 70 international campaigns are featured grouped according to their approach: Stunts, Street Propaganda, Sneaky Tactics, Site-specific campaigns and Multi-fronted attacks.

Badge/Button/Pin
Badges, buttons and pins have been around for more than a century. Today they're everywhere: on lapels and bags all over the world and in the sketchbooks and on the screens of some of the hottest graphic designers, artists and illustrators. A badge can be a cheap and easy way to display political or cultural affiliations or it can simply be a fashion accessory. Cheap to produce and easy to make at home, the humble badge is the new T-shirt. A guide to the best and most beautiful badges being produced right now - be they graphic, textual or plain illustrative - this book explores the rich variety of uses of the badge since the year 2000, whether it be promotion, revenue-raising or simply decorative. The book will appeal to graphic designers, illustrators, fashion designers, artists, music lovers and badge enthusiasts of all ages.

My first book, Guerrilla Advertising, has just been published in Japan as a hardback book with carrier-bag style handles – so that as people carry it around, it becomes the medium for a self-promotional guerrilla style campaign. Nice! Click the image to read more...

This is the special edition of my Badge/Button/Pin book. It's about badges and the super-limited edition shown here comes packaged with ten real badges by the likes of Antoni + Alison, Build, Fred Deakin, Kim Jones, Trevor Jackson and more... Which is great, providing you like badges, that is. Click the image to find out more...

I wrote a feature for Plastique Magazine's Issue 2 called Vive La Revolution – which was a celebration of record sleeve art post-digital revolution. Shown here is the cover of the issue and the first of the feature's three spreads.

The other two spreads show a selection of sumptuously packaged record and CD sleeves, many of which are mine and which the magazine had shot specially.

I'm still gutted that the guys at Plastique lost some of my much coveted record collection and disappointed that they weren't even interested in reimbursing me for the "missing" bits. Still, working with Matt Willey at Studio8 (who art directs the magazine) was a real joy and I love how he presented the feature.

Hi,

I'm a great club night. I enjoy moonlight dinners, walks along the beach, good books, lentils and all the things your interested in. How about we team up? We can make freaky love children of our own. We can name them after the planets. We could bring them up on a farm in north Wales. And then once thats all said and done, we could play some sweet fuckin rock n' roll music and beat down on all those hippy chumps. You in?

Hey dude,

How's life? I tried calling earlier, couldn't get through. Oh well I was just wondering when my deadline is? And I wanted to tell you that I'd bought a signed Sleepy La Beef album at a car boot for only £1. Shame it's from the 80's but it's still pretty dope. And also for £1 I bought The Kinks-Kinks album, which if mint is worth £100. SWEET!
