The band G Tonic initially formed as a funk trio in Whittier, California in September of 2004 by two brothers, Omar Herrera (guitar) and Alonzo Herrera (drums), and bassist Kenny Herrera. The two musician brothers began to experiment with various styles of music and, to accommodate this eclecticism, the group soon grew into an 7 piece band consisting of Mason Ball (trumpet -ex mem. voodoo glow skulls), Eddie Saldana (percussion)Ray Bracamontes(percussion) Johnny Utah(guitar-ex Griffith project) ,and a new addision to the band Jose Cisneros(bass guitar) these local musicians from different backgrounds and bands collaborate to make the G tonic sound. The band is largely influenced by improvisational jazzfunk, latinsoul music of the 1960s, and 1970s, exemplified by such acts as Donald Byrd Curtis Mayfield, Roy Ayers,james brown, Ray Barreto, and Mongo Santamaria . However, contemporary jazz, soul and funk bands, such as Jamiroquai, and Soulive, also serve as central influences to G Tonic. The band is currently showcasing its high energy performance throughout Southern California.
