This is how we write music.... We usually get the rough draft complete and recorded as a reference then practice each song and see how it develops. Once music is developed and mastered we make final recordings. We have been very careful to leave the music open for vocals and development. Some say we sound like Dream Theater meets Rush meets Mr. Buggle but with a modern up to date sound. We do not think that we sound like anyone else. I guess we have to be compared to something.......Its gotta be the big giant analog synth and vintage Marshall "Plexi" amp heads with Mesa Boogie sound that would make ones think that we sound like Rush meets Dream Theater. I tend to think that all the different styles of the past years great sound are incorporated in the music, but its bits and pieces mixed in with a newer sound. Think Alas to Yes.....
Michael Beaulieu....is the guitarist, founding member and co song writer of EMPIRE. Michael has managed to create and recreate dreams, visions and feelings through structured music. It is evident that his having attended the University of Hartford's Hartt School as a guitar performance major has played a vital role in his abilities as an innovator, a creator of music, an engineer, arranger and a producer. At the time of his stay, the Hartte School was in the top five music schools nationally along with Berkley and Juilliard. He studied extensive classical guitar and classical music at the Hartt school for many years and during his stay found that his interests were much more diverse than the classical guitarist in which the Hartt School was making him into. It was then that Alan Spriestersbach (professor at the university) pointed out that he was caught in the mix and torn between the different worlds of electric guitar and classical guitar with a great talent and passion for recording and composition. This is what sent him on a constant journey to break new ground in rock music, this can be heard on the new ASPARAGUSTUS EP. Andres Segovia once said "One cannot serve two masters!"
Mr. Beaulieu is a strong believer of innovation! How many have made it through being a follower and a believer? One must pave their own road and not be afraid to go out on a limb. One must have their own goals and beliefs and make them into reality. Evel Knievel "World Famous Dare Devil" crashed over and over again. He broke many bones but never gave up, he kept on getting up and thought that he could do it better next time. He had no fear only a dream. This is the passion that has driven Michael into forming the EMPIRE.
