Influences
We've all been involved in the folk scene for many years so it's hard to pick out individual influences. That said we have to mention the Watersons, Swan Arcade, the Wilsons, Peter Bellamy, Roy Harris, Louis Killen, the Young Tradition, Johnny Collins and Benny Graham.
Sounds Like
Four people enjoying singing together! Although for some songs we might go down to a 2-part or 3-part rendition.
The group came together in late 2005 and did its first gig at the Styvechale Folk Club in Coventry in July, 2006. Since then it has performed at various local clubs and festivals including Bedworth, Belvoir Castle, Alcester, Bideford, Ryedale, Banbury and Warwick.
They perform a mix of 2, 3 and 4 part harmony songs using traditional or traditionally based material. There is always good variety in their performances ranging from the gentle and sensitive love song to the raucous chorus.
Their first CD "Lean on One Another" is now available - released April 2009. Further details available from www.gu4.org.uk.
"All singing in my heart, all praying in my brain 'It comes of heat and beer' - hark how he guffaws plain" : Ned Bratts (Robert Browning, 1879)
Hi Pete, Don't be cheeky. It's my uke that Alice may well have attempted to pass off as her own once upon a time! Glad you like us. Spread the word... Lorna xx
